When I was younger I couldn’t wait to leave home. I wanted to get as far away from my little town as fast as my feet could take me. I don’t remember where we lived before my parents divorced. I was only two when mom had all she could handle with daddy making liquor and running around with other women all the time. I do remember that. The cussing and arguing finally got to her. We moved in with her parents, and her two brothers and about ten other family members. It was a big two-story house on top of a hill. I have some fond memories of those days. Lori asked me, Jenifer who is that man? Why are you asking me? She started in about I bet your mom is going on a date, well no way was that happening. I told her to shut her stupid mouth and she went crying to my mom. I got punished and had to stay inside for the rest of the day. She said we would be staying with Karen for a few hours until she came home. I loved Karen, she had a little girl and a belly full of another one and mom being the kindhearted, caring person that she is took them in. When I found out Karen had arranged this date for my mom with her brother I had a complete fit. There was no way I was staying inside with that traitor, so I called my daddy crying and he came and picked me up in his new green Duster, that car would fly. I felt so cool riding around in it. I didn’t realize that he was drunk and now madder than a hornet because my mom was on a date with another man. I’m glad we left before they got back, or he would have been in jail for assault or worse. It wasn’t long before we were moving, again. Momma had fallen in love with a city boy. This time I had a whole new family complete with two little brothers who had a mother who didn’t want them and a father just doing what he could to feed them. They were both chubby little guys, so I guess he was doing a decent job, though I wouldn’t have told him that. He just stole my mom away from me.
