This story focuses on the life of a woman name Guadalupe Quintanilla. It talks about the hard times she has faced since she was a little girl and even as woman. She was living in a town called Nogales, Mexico below the Arizona border with her grandparents. In the first grade she dropped out. The school tested her to be retarded, her IQ score was sixty-four which was very low and her school stated that she couldn't learn anything. Lupe's grandfather became blind when she was 12 years old and they moved from Mexico to Brownsville, Texas where she started school there. She was put back into a first grade class for four months with 6 year old's who made fun of her for being to old and dumb. Later on, when she turned 16 she married a Mexican-American dental technician. She then had 3 children named Martha,Victor, and Mario. Her children started school and had been placed in a program called "Yellow Birds" for slow learners. She was then upset because she felt that it was her fault that her kids where slow. Soon after that, she became fed up and knew she had to do something to find education. So she tried to find different ways to learn English such as, sitting in a nursing class at a hospital where she had volunteered at for years. But unfortunately she couldn't due to her not having a high school diploma. She didn't give up she went up to Texas Southmost College and she waited in the parking lot for 2 hours next to the Registrar (the person who makes the decisions) car until they came out. She felt like quitting, but then thought about why she started. It doesn't matter how long it takes you to get where you need to be as long as you get there that's all that matters. I can learn to never give up no matter how hard it gets, always keep faith by my side and push
