Almost, if not all, autistic people, have a special talent, Allysha’s is being able to perfectly recall any song she has listened to since before her first words. I met Allysha for the first time, when she hopped in my lap in pure excitement because I knew “Blue Collar Man” by the Styx and Andrea at the first day of cross-country practice freshman year. That day destroyed me: she had left to live with her father in Kentucky without saying goodbye. The few visits a year with her were tiresome, full of arguing, snarky comments, and masks to get through family functions.We constantly argued over what needs to be done, where our priorities were, what the other should wear, who the they should date, and the list goes on. This has been our relationship for over ten years. Up until recently, with the birth of my nephew, Isaiah, have things been hell between us. She moved back home after 13 years, which caused countless quarrels in the Vradenburg household. However, with Isaiah’s life, came some resolution. The whole family saw how much needs to be provided for the child and the poor, young, single mother.
