These debates have been going on for a long time, many say that gun control is a big part of American culture.
There are a lot of reasons as to why stricter gun control is a good thing.
One of the effects of more gun control would be less shootings. The reasoning behind this is there will be more background checks so that guns will not get in the hands of the wrong people/criminals. Doing more background checks will ensure that people who have a crime record will not be able to purchase guns.Another reason to promote creating stricter gun laws would be because there will be less suicides. Two thirds of deaths in the United States are due to a gun. As mentioned, if there are more thorough background checks then there will be a longer waiting time to purchase your gun. Someone going to purchase a gun with the intent of committing suicide will have to wait longer due to the background check, therefore they will not have a gun while they are thinking about committing suicide. However, there are many reasons as to why having a stricter gun law may be not such a good thing.
Many people believe that believe gun control would not be the best thing to do. One reason behind this is would be that having a stricter gun control would create more criminals. If a 40% of gun purchases are already illegal, then image how much that number would go up if we create stricter gun laws. For instance, marijuana is legal in 22 states, out of a total of 50, but people still sell it and get caught anyways. Why would it not be the same with concealed
guns?
Many people believe stricter gun laws means taking away their right to bear arms. Why take the rights of people who treat the law correctly? In 2009 there was a total of 270 guns in United States households. This is because most people carry concealed weapons for their own safety. These people may not be able to trust authority figures. There are many reasons as to why they may not be able to trust other people, one being that they may have had a traumatic experience in their past. For example, a person who went through years of abuse from an authority figure may have trouble trusting other authority figured to that. Another being that as a child their role models did not set the best example for them.
Another con to having a stricter gun control would be that you could educate the people carrying the gun. If you were to educate people on how to properly use the guns rather than just letting them run off with them, there would be a better outcome. If most people were better educated on what not do with the equipment then there would be a whole lot less deaths then there is now that guns are just handed out willey nilley. I, myself, believe that some action to increase strictness on gun control should be set place. However, the laws should not be so strict that people believe they are losing their rights as an American citizen. But, the law should be strict enough that people are able to feel safe. They should not be too scared to go out into public places because someone may shoot them. They should be able to send their children, or themselves even, to school without the danger of a school shooting randomly showing up. People have the right to feel safe during their everyday life.
In conclusion, there are many positives and negatives to having a stricter gun control.
If there were stricter gun laws would be a lot less shootings. Since there are less shootings, the end result would be less fatalities.
