Gun Control Benefits

In 2016, handguns alone killed 48 people in Japan, 8 in Great Britain, 34 in Switzerland, 58 in Israel, 21 in Sweden and 10,228 in the United States. By looking at these numbers it is clear that this country would be benefited if gun control was increased. Gun control being increased would benefit in many ways but some of the most important include drastically reducing death rates, armed civilians are more likely to cause a crime than to stop one, and the government could save a lot of tax payer money.

One reason more gun control laws are necessary, is that it could drastically reduce death rates. Guns are the 12th leading cause of death, ahead of liver disease, Parkinson’s disease and death by fire. Last year, guns killed a total of 33,229
This means that since it is so easy for a civilians to get a firearm with no real benefit to stop the crimes, then by decreasing the amount of people with the ability to get a gun, it would end up being more beneficial. For example, none of the 62 mass shootings that took place between 1982 and 2012 were stopped by an armed civilian. This means that people that actually have a concealed-carry permit are not using it to help anyone proving that by limiting the amount of access to guns the amount of crimes will hopefully decrease. Gun activists talk about a specific scenario taken place in 2002 at Appellation School of Law where a shooting was stopped by students but these students were previously in law enforcement. This proves that people that are trained and know how to handle guns properly are the ones stopping gun crimes, not just regular armed civilians. Another quote from Evenson, “this is not 1880 where everyone is allowed access to a gun, that’s why there is more crime. There are too many ‘ good civilians’ who are bad with guns however.” Our country’s biggest problem is the easy access to guns and these civilians who have guns just because they have the right to are not helping. So by increasing gun control, those regular armed civilians who aren’t helping but possibly harming the situation,
Some may argue that by placing these limits, it would take away the second amendment right, but it is proven that less guns equal less crime and more safety for Americans. Bill Clinton once said, “When we got organized as a country, [and] wrote a fairly radical Constitution, with a radical Bill of Rights, giving radical amounts of freedom to Americans, it was assumed that Americans who had that freedom would use it responsibly…”. Our problem is that times have changed and people abuse that right. By increasing gun control our country will be benefited as a
