in 1976, Habitat has grown rapidly and now includes more than 1400 U.S. affiliates in Habitat USA and over 100 projects in 30 other countries sponsored by Habitat International. Over 100,000 Habitat houses have been built.
Today Habitat for Humanity is a true world leader in addressing the issues of poverty housing. Its main mission is to help communities in need by renovation and constructing housing so all those can enjoy a decent home. They accomplish this vision through four main purposes: working with Gods people, cooperating with other groups, by exemplifying the gospel of Jesus Christ, and enabling people from all walks of life.
How is it all possible for Habitat for Humanity?
Donations to Habitat for Humanity provide vital financial support to help them construct and repair houses. In addition, more than one million people every year volunteer with the organization. In the United States, their partner homeowners’ no-interest monthly mortgage payments are used to build more Habitat houses. On a global scale, Habitat for Humanity uses innovative housing finance practices and partnerships with microfinance organizations to build and repair homes.
There are many ways to donate towards Habitat via their website. You can simply click on the "Donate Online" button. You can become a monthly donor and enroll in their HopeBuilders giving program, and your monthly gift will help provide Habitat with consistent, reliable support. You can make a donation in honor or memory of someone with their Gifts from the Heart cards. You have the ability double your gift through employer matching. Other ways Habitat for Humanity allows for people to donate is by shopping at the online Habitat store, becoming a corporate partner, and even donating your car. Habitat partners with as many families as possible, but the problem of inadequate housing has reached critical proportions globally. Donations help to build affordable housing for families in need, providing them with shelter and the hope of a better
life.
Habitat for Humanity International collaborates in a number of federal government programs. These programs were established by Congress to support housing organizations that work to revitalize and strengthen neighborhoods and provide simple, decent, affordable housing for lower-income individuals and families in the United States. Participating in these programs allows Habitat for Humanity to help U.S. affiliates grow, expand and, ultimately, serve more families. Equally important is the awareness Habitat places on using taxpayer money wisely and efficiently and complying with all government regulations. Habitat for Humanity must compete for any recurring funds every year by submitting an application to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. If awarded funding, Habitat for Humanity International serves as the grant administrator and conducts its own application process with U.S. affiliates. Funding is then distributed to selected affiliates for use at the local level. Without all the help Habitat gets, none of it would be possible. Since 1976, Habitat has been able to build and repair over 600,000 houses, serving over 3 million people worldwide.
