Hae Min Lee Case Analysis
Adnan Syed perceived as a murderer and a menace , is he really to blame for the death of Hae Min Lee? It’s believable that the Baltimore Police Department had no idea who really killed Hae Min Lee therefore they jumped at the first lead they received . In all honesty what police department would like a murder case to be left unsolved, the answer is none. It not only looks bad on the police department but shows faults within the justice system of Massachusetts and their failing to solve the case. To conclude it’s believable that Adnan Syed is in fact not guilty of the murder of Hae Min Lee but is being perceived as guilty by others who testify against him. To begin with the break up between Hae Min Lee and Adnan left somewhat of a bitter …show more content…
During Jay’s testimony, Jay admitted to helping Adnan move Hae’s body which astounded the court as to how open and descriptive he was. In addition Jay told Jenn to be honest with the detectives due to the fact that the lies both were telling to protect and shield each other were clouding the truth .This definitely helped Jay’s case in perceiving Adnan as guilty by making himself seem believable and honest in front of the jury, but is this just a tactic by Jay to quickly turn attention away from himself and possibly others ? When Jay was asked as to why he didn't tell Hae that Adnan threatened to kill her his response was, “I took it as a grain of sand instead of concrete.” Jay a good friend of Adnan testifying against him , this not only raised eye brows but only helped persuade people in the court that Adnan is guilty of murder. Due to the lack of suspects Jay’s testimony was the deciding factor for prosecuting Adnan as guilty for the murder of Hae. Interestingly enough Jay’s story changes multiple times during interviews with the Baltimore Police Department and he even admits to lying when on the stand which contradicts some of the evidence he brought up, which leaves me to believe he may not be telling the

The next day she goes to the cops and tells them that Jay told her Adnan killed Hae. On February 28, Jay gets interviewed by detectives, he tells them everything he knows; how Adnan showed him the body and then leads them to Hae’s car, this proves that Jay was at the scene. But Jay's story changes, the next time he is asked by the detectives he admits to assisting Adnan with burying the body, he later tells Jenn that he needs to clean up the shovels and that he needs her help. These inconsistencies make it hard to believe that he is a solid witness, he doesn't change his story once but multiple times. He tells the Cops that he is sure the murder happened at the Best Buy parking lot and that Adnan later called him from a payphone there, he draws detectives a map of the location of the payphone but when you look through the blueprints and ask the primary and recent owners, no one has ever seen a payphone outside at the parking lot. Before we go any further we need to know the time of the murder, the state's timeline is from 2:15-3:30 pm, this is when Adnan went from Woodlawn High school to Best Buy and between all this still had time to kill Hae, the problem with this is that it's nearly impossible. Investigators Sarah and Dana tested the State's timeline, they accounted for the traffic of getting out of…

Jay says in two different investigations that the call came in around 3:45 but according to the records they came in at 2:36. The records also show that Jay was not at Jenn’s house from 12pm to 3:40pm (like he and Jenn said) that leaves the following; Jay was in the area of Hae’s last-known location at the time that she went missing, and Jay has no alibi for where he was during that time period. Thus, Jay can’t be at Jenn’s house, as he and Jenn told the police over and over. The records show the phone near Woodlawn the entire time of Hae’s (probable) abduction and(or) murder. The same phone was being used to call “Jenn house” at the same time. Adnan has no reason to call Jenn. Did Jay call Jenn?…

    Adnan Syed's Case Study

But, what the defense failed to bring to the court's attention is that on a fax cover sheet discovered by Susan Simpson, AT&T clearly states that incoming call information is not reliable for location of the phone, negating the prosecution's use of it being a tracking device for Adnan. Those AT&T records said Syed’s phone “pinged” a cellphone tower covering the park and nearby areas during calls he received at 7:09 p.m. and 7:16 p.m. on 13 January 1999. The calls were described by Syed’s current attorney as “the pillar of the state’s case” against him. In a court motion filed last August, Syed’s attorney, C Justin Brown, said the disclaimer should have barred prosecutors from using the cellphone records. Brown said the misuse of the records in the face of the “unambiguous warning” on AT&T’s cover sheet – and the failure of Syed’s original lawyer to do anything about this, amounted to prosecutorial misconduct and a denial of Syed’s right to due process. Although this evidence seems crucial to the case, Adnan's lawyer never brought this up at trial, one may think that his lawyer may not bring the evidence to trial is because the state didn’t present them the evidence. Also, in Jay’s interview with Intercept he states that the burial took place at midnight, making any significance the cell records had in placing Adnan near the burial site at seven p.m.…

What would it be like if a person was convicted as guilty, but was really innocent? The murder of Hae Min Lee was committed on January 13, 1999. The person found guilty of this crime was Adnan Syed. Adnan was Hae’s boyfriend for a while and they were happy together, according to friends. Sarah Koenig is just a random person to Adnan Syed. She was told about the case by Rabia Chaudry whose brother was Adnan’s friend. Sarah heard what Rabia had to say about the case and was very interested. Since that time, she has done a podcast called, Serial. After investigating, it is clear that Adnan Syed is innocent because after school on the day of the murder, Adnan talked to Asia McClain at the library for a few minutes at 2:30 p.m., Adnan did not obsess over Hae after their breakup, and Mr. S was going to use the restroom in Leakin Park where he found Hae.…

The reason the other side believes Adnan is guilty is because of one person; no, not Adnan himself; Jay, who says Adnan told him he was going to kill Hae. More importantly, Jay himself says that Adnan showed Hae’s body to him, as put: “I noticed that Hae wasn't with him. I parked next to him. He asked me to get out the car. I get out the car. He asks me, am I ready for this? And I say, ready for what?” And he takes the keys. He opens the trunk. And all I can see is Hae's lips are all blue, and she's pretzeled up in the back of the trunk. And she's dead.” (Episode I, Page 10). Jay is claiming to have been shown the body of Hae, and he is placing Adnan at the very scene of the crime. How believable is Jay, because according to Sarah and Bill Ritz, Jay’s story repeatedly keeps on changing. Sarah explains to the audience, “I put it to Bill Ritz when I talked to him briefly on the phone. Jay's story kept changing. You were catching the inconsistencies and he was having to explain them and clean up his story. So what ultimately made you believe him? Ritz said they believed Jay's story because “we were able to investigate and corroborate what he was saying.” (Episode 4, Page 68). Jay’s inaccuracies are either due the the fact that he…

In the tapes of Jay’s interview with investigators the listener often hears a tapping noise. That tapping noise isn’t made by Jay, but by the investigators. The investigators aren’t shy about giving away certain details or wording the question differently so that Jay ends up saying what they want to hear. While it is a serious allegation to point the fingers at the cops for trying to twist the truth or come up with their own story, it is not unlikely for police to do such a thing. In Undisclosed episode three, author Susan simply clearly states what she thinks is really going on in the tapes with Jay and the detectives, “The detectives are repeatedly bullying Jay into giving answers that they want. The detectives will tell Jay that he needs to give a certain answer, and again and again Jay complies. He does say what they tell him to say, and it’s not that subtle either.” Jay was only looking out for himself, he didn’t care if Adnan got charged with Hae’s murder. He and the detectives were determined to have their story made to look credible by Jay so that they could convict…

Adnan was a outstanding student in school, he was Prom prince his junior year, he was involved in sports, and he was very serious about his religion.
