Haidt also mentions the authority/submissive foundation, which believes in taking control of one’s life and not having someone else take control of it (165-169). It is seen as more desirable to control one’s own life and more moral than doing something under submission. The sanctity and degradation foundation pulls one’s view on morality based on how pure something seems or filthy (Haidt 170-175). Sanctity can be defined as something that is socially acceptable or acceptable upon individual basis but is often based on other’s views. Degradation is often defined as an action or spoken word that often makes one cringe, it is not a normal thing among society, and is often grotesque, but is not socially acceptable. Upon the fairness/cheating foundation it is not fair to the baby to not even get a chance at life. It’s cheating for the mother to get an abortion because she doesn’t want the burden of children. Some may argue that nature gives natural abortion such as miscarriages. The argument is that nature is completely out of control and does what is best suited, mothers killing their own babies is not natural at all but is only a manufactured imitation.
