When Bobby kissed Nia’s belly he was making a connection with the baby. He didn’t want to stop kissing it, just like when you eat ice cream you don't want to stop eating it. you just want more. Bobby had loved something or trusted a new little person in his life before he had even saw it. He didn’t want to lose the baby, so he makes connections. For him to not lose something he had to love it, and care for it, that’s what he did. When Bobby and Nia were chewing the gum in the doctor’s office it shows how their childhood is being popped, as if blowing a bubble. It also means like something is being taken away from them and that they have to grow up. Bobby had given Nia a piece of gum, like her childhood, yet again, as if she was getting it back for picking the right decision, adoption. Bobby found peace instead of something being taken from him. This is what the gum symbolizes for Bobby and Nia. “It’s time to grow up.” After reading this essay you saw how Bobby used symbols and clues when growing up. He had actually grew up for this little human that he loves unconditionally. Bobby is now a wonderful father to a little girl he never knew he would meet this early on in life.
