Negative Side Effects of Hair Dye Products
In this report, you’ll read about hair dye and its negative side effects. The first section of this report I explain the three main types of hair dyes. Next, the negative side effects of hair dye products are mentioned and elaborated. After that, safety tips and precautions are given. Finally, the conclusion will tie it all together. This is my research report on how hair dye products can cause various, life threatening side effects, like cancer, after use.
First, there are three categories all hair dyes fall into. The first category is temporary dyes. Temporary dyes normally last 2-3 washes and covers only the surface of your hair. …show more content…
Studies in normal people include the following cancers: bladder cancer, non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL), leukemia, bone marrow cancer, and breast cancer. However, according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), there is lack of evidence to further prove hair dyes as cancer causers. Likewise, the National Toxicology Program (NTP) says hair dyes are not classified as cancer causers, but they do say “some chemicals that are or were used in hair dyes as ‘reasonably anticipated to be human carcinogens.’” (27) Even with little evidence of hair dyes being carcinogens, everyone should still be aware that there is the possibility.
Concerns of carcinogenic hair dyes in humans is on the rise. The most common types of dyes are dark semi-permanent and permanent dyes. Through medical research, it has been found that darker permanent dyes are more likely to be carcinogens. Over the years, reported cases of certain cancers, caused by hair dyes, has increased drastically. Most cases were from personal use and hairdressers. This might not be such a surprise since most dye producers use more than 5,000 different chemicals in their dyes. Yet another reason why concerns of carcinogen from hair dyes is …show more content…
First, follow all directions carefully, and read everything. Second, you should always do a patch test before every use, even if it’s the same dye you’ve used. Third, always wear gloves, sometimes the package will say there is no need for gloves, however it is still a great idea to wear some. Forth, never mix two different dye brands together. Also, make sure the dyes you’re mixing together is safe when combined. Fifth, never dye anything other than what the package says (never dye eyebrows or eyelashes). By following these safety tips, your hair dying should go
