Hall of Fame (Essay/Response)
Earlier in the year I presented a speech that was about believing in yourself and pursuing your dreams. Shortly after I did that, a song called ‘The Hall Of Fame’ by a band called The Script, featuring a rapper from the pop group The Black Eyed Peas, Will.I.Am, was released on the 19th of August 2012, and has been in the Top 100 Billboard charts since then. The lyrics in this song really motivates me in so many ways, and just inspires me to reach higher, and strive harder everyday.
The three phrases that were used repeatedly in these song lyrics were ‘You can’, ‘You Could’, and ‘Do it’. These constant sayings in the song are the words that motivate me the most.
‘You can’, because you can do anything. “You can be the greatest, You can be the best, You can be the king kong banging on your chest.”, are the first 3 lyrics that are sung, telling you that if you want to be somewhere great in your life, you can achieve it. That ‘can’ is letting you know that it is possible, anything is possible, and that it is achievable.
‘You could’, because with your belief, you could achieve the greatest record, with your belief. “You could go the distance, You could run the mile, You could walk straight through hell with a smile.” These are another 3 lyrics that are sung in the second verse of the song. This ‘could’ Is telling you the possibilities that are open for you to take a chance in, letting you know that the world records that you think can never be broken, could be broken, with your effort & faith.
‘Do it’, because you only live once, and may never get the chance again. “Do it for your people, Do it for your pride… Do it for your country, Do it for your name.” The ‘Do it’ is telling you to make your people proud, to prove your haters wrong, and to do it for yourself, your diginity.
“Dedicate yourself and you can find yourself standing in the hall of fame.”
In my personal opinion, it’s one thing if you have a dream and want to pursue it, but you have to dedicate

Every person will always have a stance on some kind of topic, however the more informed we are about that topic we can often have more passion for our side. This is definitively seen when regarding sports journalist Frank Deford and his passionate argument with respect to Pete Rose. In one of his articles published in a 2002 edition of Sports Illustrated he attempts to educate the reader as to why Pete Rose should be placed in the Hall Of Fame through a rather unusual form of argumentation. This atypical argumentation first begins with a sense of exigence, he informs the reader that it is hall of fame induction time once again attempting to set a base for the situation. There is also a sense sarcasm as well as pathos introduced by our writer,…

At the time that Beowulf was written, the culture that produced the poem, the Anglo-Saxons, were a pagan culture. The Catholic Church was trying to spread its beliefs to other parts of the world. The Anglo-Saxons were a definite target. Many of the texts that we have out of that time period were written by Catholic monks. In Beowulf there are many references to pagan and Christian beliefs. These beliefs neither contradict, nor outshine each other. Rather, the monks writing the work interjected some Christian ideas in order to try and sell Christianity to the people that were familiar with the tale. The pagan and Christian ideas are perfectly laced together to introduce some of the ideas of Christianity to a pagan people.…

It was just another lazy Tuesday during the scorching Arizona summer for me when I heard the most influential quote I had ever perceived. My family and I were watching the Popular show: America’s got Talent. Then it happened, A comedian with a stutter was giving his pre-audition spheel and how terribly difficult his life had become. Before he was done, the man by the name of Drew Lynch said at the end of his speech, “I believe that anyone is able to turn any negative into a positive”. This perked my ears up and really made me step back and take an indisputable look into my life. I had been very recently going through a challenging point in my life on whether or not to hang up the towel on playing baseball as I had not been able to make the…

Fighting for freedom was the reason we fought in the first place, and I wish to fulfill that reason. Valley Forge was a very difficult turning point, but in all that there is doubt, there is hope. Whether you win, lose, or die, you’ll be glad you re-enlisted , and so will your aging mother and other family members. I wish to serve for my country as my brother did. I believe that in all that there is bad, there is good. In all that there is darkness, there is light. In all that there is doubt, there is hope to conquer our toughest…

It wasn’t until the end of my freshman year that I began to understand part of the connotation of his words. He was a man to speak from experience, and I truly believed him. That same year, I was named number 5 of my class, tied with four other people, for the class of 2016, with a GPA of 3.900. Quite frankly, I was surprised to see how far I had gotten up without knowing or trying as hard as I could have. As I entered sophomore year, I began with a determined mindset. A mindset that was moderately similar to the one I had been surrounded with in band. As my director spoke about how one’s determination, integrity and work ethic can take a person with nothing to the end of the line with everything. I had never thought about how obtainable the craziest dream could really be until this individual shared his ideals with the rest of the family…
