Saturday afternoon on 7/31/12, i was patrolling in front of Bill's Card Shop when i noticed a customer leaving the Sports Bar & Grill. The customer appeared to have trouble walking, but they were not causing any trouble. As i continued patrolling the grounds i heard a crash, and i immediately went to go see what had happened. When i arrived i saw two cars that had seemed to have struck each other in the parking lot in front of Bill's Card Shop. I proceeded to the accident and notice that a Black Ford Escort, driven by a 25 year old female and a Blue Honda Civic, driven by a 45 year old male i saw leave the Sports Bar and Grill had collided. The Blue Honda Civic apparently backed into the Black Ford Escort, with the information gathered i called…
Modern Halloween has become less literal about ghosts and ghouls and more about costumes and candy. The holiday is overflowing with action on its reserved night. Kids are so anxious to drag their parents out the door, show off their creative costumes, and ring their first doorbell for a fun-filled night of trick-or-treating as soon as the dismissal bell for school rings. High school students wait until the whole group of friends is together before they head out into the misty darkness with only the flickering street light to guide them. Meanwhile, adults are sipping on their witches brew at a local party or nightclub.…
A young trick-or-treater has a run in with a bully on Halloween night. Unfortunately for the bully, however, it soon becomes apparent that he messed with the wrong kid when his father shows up.…
I read the book Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult. The story begins in a small town in Sterling, New Hampshire. At the high school, you read about a routine day of students in classes. As a student runs out of class to leave for an orthodontist appointment a loud bang goes off in the parking lot, which turns out to be a bomb set off in Matt's car. The students are confused by the noise and gun shots are fired. Patrick, the only detective on the Sterling police force (which is just stupid to have only one), hears on his radio about the shooting at Sterling High School. Patrick sees several students on the floor, surrounded in blood. The boy is dead and has a gunshot in his head while his girlfriend, Josie wakes up and cant…
Black Tuesday is the commonly used term for the catastrophic stock market crash of October 29, 1929 on Wall Street. But due to the hard downfall on the economy it was later known as Black Tuesday which was the onset of the great depression. Numerous circumstances caused Black Tuesday such as the following: excessive use of credit, weak farm economy, and overproduction of consumer goods.…
I rushed out of my last class and made a beeline to my old hideout. As I started collecting my belongings I could hear the blaring of police sirens. I dropped everything and headed towards the main entrance. Glancing out the window I could see a very large crowd and at least a dozen police men. I sat with my hand on the door handle debating whether I should join the crowd or head home. After the longest 5 seconds of my life I swung the door open and rushed into the crowd of students. As I got closer and closer to the front of the crowd I could hear the screams of a boy. I still couldn’t see what was going on so I dropped to the ground to see between student’s legs. What I saw caused me to turn completely numb. There in the center of the courtyard stood IT. He has handcuffed and held back by three police men. I slowly crawled my way to the side to see the rest of the scene. As soon as I moved I regretted it. Lying on the ground, enclosed by a pool of blood and a long knife in there abdomen laid Rachel. I jumped to my feet and shoved my way to Andy Evans. The officers held me back as I kicked and screamed. I couldn’t control myself and the next thing I knew I was slowly falling to the…
At 4am dispatch received a call from the resident at 137 West Alexander Drive, who claimed to have heard a scream from his neighbours house. Captain Jason Long turned the case over to Officer Brice Tyler, Officer Lily Rayne, and I. At approximately 4:30am we arrived at the house knocking on the door. The young man answered with a smile on his face. I had noted that he seemed wide awake, as if he had been up for some time, as he invited us inside. We told him of our cause of being there, and he immediately told us the old man was visiting his sister in another town. He did not give us more details. instead, he showed us that the old mans belongings were exactly in there proper place. Afterward, he asked us to sit down in the bedroom, chatting easily about his evening. Soon after, he seemed to become agitated, raising his voice and speaking angrily. He was soon pacing and hitting the table, threatening us to make us stop agonising him, even though we did not say a threatening word to him.…
I have encountered several dilemmas throughout my lifetime, but only one that has made a huge impact on my life. It was the night of June 4, 2011 where I attended a high school graduation party for all high school graduates. The party was hosted by a friend of the family (Annie Pinellas) who threw parties annually for the high school graduates at her home, providing free food, drinks, DJ, etc. It was my third year attending the graduation party where everyone from different high schools, cities, cultures, would get together for a night of fun. During the party we would shoot videos, dance, take pictures, rap and sing pretty much everything just enjoying one another. As the night went on more and more people started coming and the house party turned into a block party being that it was so many people that everyone couldn’t fit into the yard or porch. Shortly after midnight around 2am joy turned into grief as bullets started flying out of nowhere over the loud music. With hundreds of people in presence everyone the crowd dispersed in all directions trying to protect themselves from what was happening before their eyes. People dropped to the ground, ran behind houses while others jumped over fences. Everything happened so fast that I ended up on the ground behind a neighbor’s house ducking for cover. The shots fired lasted…
The Great Depression was a miserable time period in American history. Emerging victorious out of World War I, American citizens enjoyed an exciting, carefree life during the prosperous Roaring Twenties. The economy was at its all-time high. In this glorious time, the American economy was booming. Since feelings of worry and doubt had largely faded, American citizens found themselves purchasing the finest things in life. Unfortunately, this all came to end when the stock market crashed on October 29th, 1929 (also referred as Black Tuesday). The stock market was at its all-time low, costing investors millions of dollars, contributing to failing banks and industry bankruptcies. This was the beginning the worst economic crisis in United States…
There were two busses leaving Atlanta in the morning, one Greyhoud and one Trailways to make their way to Birmingham, AL. They left an hour apart to make sure that one of them was going to reach the city. As the Greyhound bus was on the way to Birmingham, the locals in Anniston, a city right on the highway, prepared themselves to greet them with a surprise. The bus arrived in Anniston and the locals were harrassing and threatening the Freedom Riders, destroying bus windows and waiting for the people on the bus to get off. Somehow a bus driver managed to leave the bus stop and continued the route on the highway. About five miles outside of Anniston the bus had a flat tire, right where another mob awaited the Freedom Riders. They harassed them, threatened them and threw a fire bomb into the bus. Just as the buses' gas tank was about to explode the mob retreated, giving the Freedom Riders and the other passengers on the bus the chance to get off it. Just as they got off the mob started attacking them, beating them tremendously. They got beaten up until a police officer fired his gun in the air and stopped the…
I’m starving and I didn’t eat anything all day.” So we passed up Billy boys and stopped in there to grab some burgers and fries. Moe didn’t have any cash on him but he had a Tilted Kilt gift. He scurried across the street to grab a meal and we told him to call us when his order is ready so we can head out. As Hussein, Ibby, and I waited for Moe to call us, we demolished our sandwiches. A juicy cheeseburger stacked with lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup, and onions. The burger was heaven in my mouth. Hussein was in a joking mood and he really likes playing jokes on people. He tells me “Yo call Eric and tell him we got jumped.” I told him “No man, that’s not funny. What if it really happens?” Hussein says “Dude you overthink think everything. Just have some fun and do it.” So being the idiot I am, I did it. A decision I know I will regret for a long time. Waiting for a reply from Eric, Moe calls and tells us to come by Tilted Kilt so we can head home. We leave Billy Boys and cross the street by 95th and Ridgeland. Next to Tilted Kilt is a bus stop and on that bus stop is a group of twenty to twenty five people waiting. Teenagers just a little bit older than us, they looked like they were up to no good. I had a strange feeling about them so I demanded “Guys lets walk down Ridgeland instead of walking down 95th. One day Hussein’s tough act was going to get us in trouble and today was the day. “No man stop being scared, they’re not going to do…

It was an early September morning and I was on my way to my bus stop to begin my first day at Vincent High School. I show no fear on my face but in the inside I was terrified. My bus arrives at 7:45 and as I waited on the block of 14th Walnut waiting for my bus to come more kids started to come stand on the bus stop with me so I didn’t feel along and more.…
Right after the assembly had ended and all the students were walking back to their classes I heard some boys laughing. I turned down smaller hallway that was out of sight of the large crowd leaving the gymnasium. When I turned down the hallway I saw something that I've only seen in movies. A group of boys beating up another boy that was much smaller than them was just something that never happened in school but I was now facing the truth, it could in fact happen in school and it wasn't just something that existed in movies now. I was in shock for a second, this wasn't suppsoed to be happening yet. There was supposed to be a week of peace in the school and now I was seeing a version of bullying I've never seen before. Then I remebered…
The sound of gun shots ringing in the distance jolted me from a fitful sleep, for some people they would only hear that deafening sound in their dreams but for me it was reality, my personal alarm clock. I brushed my teeth and donned a black hoodie that had a gaping hole in the side. The smell of eggs and bacon was wafting in the air, cooking was the only thing my foster mother, Maria did for me. “Yow Jordan, get your butt down here u no good low life!” she bellowed. Descending the creaky stairs two at a time, I grabbed a Ziploc bag and threw my breakfast in it. “Good morning to you too!” said Maria. “Morning mom.” I mumbled, while heading towards the door. God knows how much I hate that witch. My battered, grey BMX bicycle laid waiting on the porch for me. I took off at top speed; almost as if I was at war with the wind, only thing was that I craved the feeling of it beating against me. I just wanted to hit somebody, anybody. Finally I reached my school, Rhodes Hall High stood three storey high, taunting me with the red dragon emblem at the front, the motto,’every child can learn, every child must learn’ at the helm. Every time I saw it I scoffed, why learn when I am never getting out of this rat-hole anyways. I sauntered up the pathway to the school’s main hall, with my head up and my best menacing glare pasted on my face, the freshmen were already scampering away. I was about half an hour late and just when I thought my tardiness would go unnoticed my worst nightmare came strutting down the hall, Mr. Morris. He was dressed in a long black overcoat with a contradicting bright yellow tie swinging from his neck. He gave me a smug, ‘I caught you and there is nothing you can do about it look’. “Chuck, why are you so late!”, he barked sending spittle flying across my face. “Sir umm, your wife had me busy”, I countered. “Detention Jordan Chuck, this evening my office!” he shrieked. Great, I just seem to attract trouble everywhere I turn but old man Morris had it…
