King Creon used the gods to explain how the traitor didn't deserve the burial to his people. Just like a parent would Creon used his power to influence this idea into his peers who just accepted and believed in his word. In the Department of Developmental Psychology, University of Utrecht they conducted a study on why children obey, One of the analyst said “Obedience among children often derived from fear of punishment or a feeling of impotence.”("Why Do Children Resist or Obey”).So as child we obey the divine law due to terror of receiving punishment if one opposes.The adult also respects the rule of god because one fears what one doesn’t know and feel impotent for the same reason. Both Hamlet and King Creon were influenced by god's law to act the way they did. Hamlet always teased suicide in the first acts but never took action because he feared of the afterlife which is part of the supernatural world. The Bible throughout the years have been interpreted in different ways thus creating religions that have the same moral principles but, a different set of belief system. In all religions there is a belief in an afterlife. As humans we have created this idea to explain our existence in the world. “The attempts of men and women of past ages to glimpse the contours of that "undiscovered country" are more than usually revealing of their hopes and fears”(Young). This is saying that we have molded our fears and hopes into this “undiscovered country” to get glimpses of belief. In Antigone king Creon molded his belief of not involving money in his reign to not be like the past kings to believe that he was going to have a kingdom unlike the others. The future or the “undiscovered world” had different plans for him because this was his downfall which let him to a tragic death just like the other ones. King Creon believes that that's what the gods wanted and used the gods as an excuse for his actions. “people tend to rely on God in their decision-making and more fervently seek His guidance for solutions to problems(Schieman). People just like Creon rely on god to make decisions and when times are rough one believes that god will solve our problems. Thus making god a major influence in our decisions we take in life.
