Happiness is a Choice
One can find happiness by the decision they make in their life. When people have difficulties in their life, they often feel as if it was faith and they cannot control their happiness. However, instead of feeling upset, people can choose to be happy by finding a solution to their problems. According to Aristotle,” [h]appiness depends upon ourselves;” it is us who determine our own emotions and the way we see life. We may choose to coward in fear or we can turn to our better judgment to find the brighter path. We must not simply fall due to the inefficiency of life; we must fight for our happiness and take control of bad situations. Our decisions are vital since it is up to us to decide who we are.
Our emotions play a huge part in our daily life; we can control and alter these feelings to our liking or let it flow passionately and freely through our veins. These daily tasks that we must partake may fluctuate our feelings and determines the level of happiness that we display. However, there is one question that we must always ask ourselves, can we control this force or will we let this force get the better of us? Will we succumb to pain and misery that everyday errands bestow upon us or can we rise above the threshold and control our own destiny? As strangely as it sounds, I believe that our happiness is not determined by the events that an individual faces, but rather the integrity and willfulness of that person. An individual can choose to be happy regardless of the negative impact that person may face simply because of that person’s determination. From one perspective, a pessimistic person may find a dull day to be dreadful and depressing, but from an optimistic person’s point of view, it may give that person an opportunity to seek out new goals. Life is treacherous game, you can either mourn every time there’s a misstep or you can play it with a positive attitude regardless of the outcome. An individual’s happiness is not determined by fate, it is

In agreement with this statement, happiness is something that takes time and each person should strive for it every day. Road blocks are bound to occur and bad days will happen. By keeping the end goal in mind, it makes it easier to avoid getting stuck in a rut. Within Book I, Aristotle also questions whether or…

The definition of what it means to truly obtain and achieve happiness in life has been explored by hundreds of philosophers over the decades. In spite of this being the case for the subject, not one of these philosophers have found an exact answer to such a question. One cannot measure happiness and its capacity. As a result of this, people have no choice but to determine their own judgement of what happiness is to them. This judgement can easily be affected by an individual’s situation and the problems that they will inevitably face.…

On a biting night where frosts condense on grass and leaves, I stood alone in the voiceless bus stop, waiting for the delayed bus that barely anyone uses. Rain soaked through my jacket while the wind scratched my face like sharp knives. Because big technology companies and universities specialized in computer programming are all located in the states, I had to leave my affectionate family and study alone in a foreign place where I knew no one. “But it is worth it,” I thought, “If I can get into a world’s leading company like Google, I would have the wealth to live a comfortable life with my parents.” Growing up in the 2000s, I witnessed the growth and change of technology. The cellphone in my pocket weighed less than 200 grams, and that was unimaginable back when I was in elementary school. It was considered very cool at that time if someone had a flip cellphone to show off. As I grew up, technology like touch screen, tablets and smartphones evolved rapidly, and I knew that there would be many opportunities in technology industries. Despite of what my parents expected, I went to the United States to study about computer programming, and I would graduate very soon. Meanwhile, my sister back in Canada wanted to become a teacher. Teachers might be an important job in the society, but technology can change the world.…

Adler explores the complexity of Aristotle’s views of happiness. While Querica implied that people have the ability to choose to be happy, Aristotle has conflicting ideas of whether happiness can be chosen. According to Aristotle, “... a life must be completed -- finished -- before we can truly judge whether or not it has been a happy one” (Adler 3). Aristotle’s point is that happiness is not a temporary feeling but rather an overall value that is given to someone’s life after they have died. This can be taken in in two ways. First of all, “Aristotle tells us first that children cannot be happy; young people, he says, precisely because they are young are not happy, nor, for that matter, unhappy” (Adler 2). In other words, Aristotle believes that children are unable to choose to be happy because they have not lived long enough to determine the quality of their life, which, as you will remember, is Aristotle’s definition of happiness. However, as Adler implies, Aristotle’s ideas are contradictory because, on one hand, Aristotle states that young people cannot choose happiness, but at the same time, Aristotle believes happiness is an accumulation of choices, which implies that perhaps the choices that young people make can begin their journey of obtaining happiness. This contradiction is pointed out when Adler states, “[we are required] to make choices every day of our lives, and carry out our choices in action” (5). Adler’s point is that Aristotle’s definition of happiness requires a look into all of the choices an individual makes until they die because that is how it is determined if a person’s life was happy or not. Due to this, Aristotle claims young people cannot choose to be happy, but they choices that they make are taken into consideration later in their life. I believe that, after taking all of this into consideration, Aristotle’s beliefs align more…

Aristotle believes that happiness is the ultimate goal in life. You cannot reach ultimate happiness unless we work hard and become successful. Aristotle hits two main points and rules to live by, one being, “But this point will be consider later by itself makes choiceworthy and lacking in nothing” (699). Which means even when one is down the desires of living life is not impossible to overcome; two being, “Happiness seems, more than anything else, to answer to this description: for it is something we choose always for its own sake and never for the sake of something else” (699). Which means do what makes you happy be able to continue to do something because one has a passion for it and no one cannot take that away because Aristotle says,”…those who desires and actions are controlled by reason will derive much profit from a knowledge of these matters” (696). Which mean happiness can be explained in terms of reason; Therefore, do something because it make you happy it will be seen by the choices we make in life.…
