Being a Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHOH) person with another disability, I face numerous of barriers throughout this course. For one my deafness requires learning new information in my primary visual language that of American Sign Language (ASL). Regardless, the challenges I face were comprehending new materials taken from the course textbook and applying them to my work with no ability to receive ASL translation. Therefore, my ability to truly understand the textbook application remains limited as the textbook is not a reader and deaf friendly version. To improve on the skills requires to gain continuous hand on practices, a few training and experiences and asking for help from within the great network of services offer at Walden University.

Although, my original topic remained the same that of communication barriers a risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the DHOH population, different aspect of communication barriers were developed. For instance, I can now approach my topic utilizing research questions from the aspect epidemiology, medical, healthcare, insurance coverage, intervention, and politics. Which could mean the research questions could change with the time given the wide range of detailed topic I can select for my dissertation sub-topics. Also, this course enabled me to gain briefly an idea to where I will retrieve my secondary data. Given the possibility of using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and / or the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Study in examining the cross-sectional study
