Harrison Bergeron alternative ending

“And then, neutralizing gravity with love and pure will, they remained suspended in air inches below the ceiling, and they kissed each other for a long, long time. It was then that Diana Moon Glampers, the Handicapper General, came into the studio with a double-barreled ten-gauge shotgun.”
It was then that the television station stopped broadcasting because what came next could not be publicly broadcasted.
She aimed the gun and fired a warning shot. Both the empress and emperor stood still with their hands in air. She took aim again, and Harrison and the empress both knew she wouldn’t miss this time. Before she could pull the trigger, Harrison interrupted her.
“Diana, this isn’t necessary. It doesn’t have to end this way,” proclaimed Harrison.
“Ohh, but it does,” replied Diana Moon Glampers, and she took aim once again.
“Just wait… listen to what I have to say first. Maybe this might change your mind. We both know the pain and misery this way of life has caused the citizens of the United States. What’s to say that the average cannot improve with a little help and encouragement? Why instead do we bring down the intelligent? I know that you, the almighty handicapper general, have ambitions. So, why not pursue your dreams. What’s to stop you, but the government?”
“I am the government”, replied Diana Moon Glampers with the same emotionless tone.
For what seemed like hours, the three of them just stood there motionless staring at one another blank faced, as if someone had pressed the pause button on the DVD player.
“I have said all that I have to say”, replied Harrison. “Now it’s all up to

The assertions made by Lewis Lapham’s Money and Class in America distinguishes the meaning of success and the requirements for respect from Americans to that of other strong societies. In his essay he defends that Americans show respect for those with a high economic status while other nations feel art and intellect are warrant for respect. With this, he agrees with Henry Adams that Americans are greatly materialistic in the sense that they try to find “success” in wealth because they have been “deflected by the pursuit of money”. Though the idea that Americans favor and respect a high economic status is true, Lapham’s claim that they do so because they are socially forced to is not accurate because they still have the ability to make a choice.…

McCandless went into Alaska not to prove himself to anyone, but to find himself in a place that was almost completely untouched.…

Clive Thompson, in his chapter excerpt “Public Thinking,” from the book Smarter Than You Think: How Technology Is Changing Our Minds For the Better published by Penguin Group, argues that the development of technology of mass communication improves the user’s writing and their ability to collaborate. To support his argument, he incorporates statistics to show the enormity of the production of writing, anecdotes to connect with the reader’s emotions, experiments to support the claim that people perform better in front of an audience, Stanford Study of Writing to support the claim that students are writing more than before and history to debate how the scientific progress would have been furthered with the current ability to collaborate. His purpose is to explain how technology improved the users’ thinking and writing in order to convince his audience that it has made people more intelligent. Thompson adopts an informal tone for his audience of students and parents by using simple language and pronouns.…
