Sea Turtle is on the critically endangered list. Hawksbill Turtles get their name because of their beak shaped jaw. Hawksbill Turtles have very pretty shells and unique patterns along their shells. “They have overlapping scales with 5 central scutes, 4 pairs of lateral scutes, and 4 prefrontal scutes”. Hawksbills have been around for 200 million years and people want to keep it running in their family. Passing down hunting to generation after generation is important to many people. Some people just hunt because they want to. Hawksbills are easy to catch because they live close to the surface and breathe air. Many Hawksbills will get caught in bags, plastic, etc. This makes it easier to catch them since they are caught and can’t swim away from you. To others, hunting is a sport they love. They get up every day to go catch dome turtles. Hunting helps you get closer to nature and explore new things. If you’ve never caught a turtle you cans see what it’s like to catch one. Hawksbills are very unique in their own way. People want to admire their beauty and go hunting for one just to see what they are like. “The injury rate of hunting is lower than that of other sports like soccer, football, and basketball”. (animalrights.about.com). This tells people that hunting is safe to do. Hunting for turtles would be safer than hunting for wild cats or deer. Turtles can’t run up to you and harm you. Hawksbills also live in the water so it shouldn’t be as scary as if you were in the woods. You’re in the open and not surrounded by trees and wild animals running around. Hawksbills are on the critically endangered list and people still hunt for them!? And it’s illegal to do any selling of the products in many countries so why do it to yourself? These poor turtles almost went extinct because so many people where hunting them down for their shells and skin. You don’t need to use their shells for jewelry, they are pretty but you can buy really cheap pretty things almost anywhere. I can’t believe some people would still do things like hunting Hawksbills. Hawksbills keep our beaches and oceans healthy and we don’t need anybody destroying it by hunting them. These turtles have been around for a very long time, let’s keep it that way. They are very pretty turtles and people admire them for their beauty, not that they can kill them. I want these turtles to stick around, I was always against hunting because I feel it’s wrong. Animals struggle when they are being hunted down. Hawksbills don’t deserve to be hunted just because they’re beautiful. Their population has dropped so much due to hunting. If hunting towards them continues it won’t be long until they’re extinct. Hawksbill females only lay 200 eggs every few years, with people hunting for their eggs as well many won’t be born. We need to let the females lay their eggs in peace and keep away from the nesting
