Hazards of Moving House
Hazards of Moving House

Many people say that they would like to be able to peer into the future, to see how the days ahead will unfold. If I were offered the gift, however, I would refuse it point-blank. Knowing in advance about the ordeal I would have to undergo to move into my apartment, for example, would have kept me in my parents’ house forever. My little daughter and I are settled in quite happily now, but the process of moving then was indeed painful. I confronted problems with the landlord, with the condition of the apartment, and with the day of moving itself. First of all, I had to deal with the hurdles the landlord placed in my path. One thing he demanded was large sum of money paid in advance. The landlord deliberately increased the sum of money and forced me to pay it immediately in a few weeks. The idea of paying these atrociously high rental fees was terrible for a mother who had a low salary like me. I also argued with the landlord over repairs I felt he should make before I moved in. The condition in this house was a chaos. The pipes were leaking, the surface of the wall was uneven etc. I should have a well-kept house since I had paid a large sum of money. The situation in the house was so awful that I couldn’t bear it. After we had finally settled these problems, I almost lost the apartment when the landlord discovered that I was moving in with a three-year-old. The landlord was afraid that my daughter would make a mess of the house and literally ruined the whole apartment. It was true that most children around were naughty but he should not think that my daughter was without exception. Second, I faced an almost overwhelming problem cleaning the mess left by the previous tenants. There was a great deal of trash both inside the apartment and on the outdoor patio. There were broken lamps, heaps of trash, spoiled sofa etc. discarded everywhere in the apartment. There was also a strong and horrible smell in the house not to mention those

"If we could see the air breathed by these poor creatures in their tenements," said a well-known physician, "it would show itself to be fouler than the mud of the gutters." Little improvement was apparent despite all that had been done. "The new tenements, that have been recently built, have been usually as badly planned as the old, with dark and unhealthy rooms, often over wet cellars, where extreme overcrowding is permitted," was the verdict of one authority.…

In thirty-five years the city of New York went from less then a hundred thousand people to at least harbor a half a million souls, in which housing had to be found. In the beginning of the tenement housing it came as a blessing to people living there, because with the low income they were getting it was perfect price to buy. There big rooms were all broken up into small ones, and they basically disregarding light and proper ventilation. The rent was lower, with small apartments and the actual floor that you were on. The tenements were never really cared for, unless the people living in them really took care of them. The people who owned them really didn't care. "Neatness, order, cleanliness, were never dreamed of in connection with the tenant-house system, as it spread its localities from year to year; while reckless slovenliness, discontent, privation, and ignorance were left to work out their invariable results, until the entire premises reached the level of tenant-house dilapidation, containing, but sheltering not, the miserable hordes that crowded benath mouldering, water-rotted roofs or burrowed among the rats of clammy cellars(How the Other Half Lives,p.10)." The only thing the landlord was after was the rent that he wanted, and he didn't care about the actual comfort of the tenants. Because of the living conditions of the tenements, the tenants…

Some things just are not fair. I moved down to Valdosta for school and have been living here for well over a month. I became acclimated to the hot weather and the humidity of the Valdosta sun. Today was Sunday, It’s barely the break of daylight and the morning sun rays are shining through onto my apartment wood dresser. I lay sound asleep with my beautiful girlfriend and my roommate Daniel comes barging in through my white door and messy cramped apartment saying to me and my girlfriend “Do you want a puppy”? We jump up and without a doubt say “yes”; “Well what are you waiting for? Get up and get ready to go get her” he said. As we scramble to get our bearings, my girlfriend and I are thinking the exact same thing as we struggle to put…

Fear is the distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain et cetera whether the threat is real or imaged; it is a feeling or condition of being afraid. Foresight is a view of the future brought about by the act of looking forward which may occur through premonitions, feelings, or dreams. When these forces are at work in an individual’s life a person is called upon to make critically important decisions that often result in outcomes that change the course of one’s life forever. The results are life-changing and irreversible for two young lovers when William Shakespeare, a man ahead of his time, displays extraordinary…

My current household consists of my girlfriend Carolyn, two dogs (13 year old Pug Ferris and 10 year old Corgi Freddy), a kitten (6 month old Laney) and myself. The animals are for the most part a joy to experience, but the corgi has been exhibiting aggressive behavioral problems that have caused a great deal of concern, additional training, and medication. Carolyn and I enjoy spending time together and continuing to grow as partners, playing with our animals, traveling, and visiting with family both nearby and further away. We live in an open and spacious two bedroom apartment in a multi-unit complex that has a variety of recreational activities available on the grounds. There are a variety of ethnicities, age ranges and family structures represented in the complex. The apartment is within walking distance of a variety of retail and commercial offerings. With regards to landscaping, make specific arrangements about retaining its care. Most tenants will not demonstrate the attention that you showed to the home. It is usually a good idea to have a gardener included in the rent to visit the property a couple times a month.
