Communication Opinion Paper
Communication is so much more than just telling someone something, to truly communicate you need to get your idea across as well as receive the message that who you are talking to is putting out. “Communication is something defined as the process of sending and receiving messages” (Thomas. C, Communication Concepts,2010) There are so many different ways to communicate with someone or something such as verbal, written, and body language to name a few. The key in my opinion is to communicate using not only the way you communicate that is most effective for you but to use the form that is best understood by the listening party.
When communicating it
is best to first know the idea and the party you are communicating with, you would not go to a blind person and start to sign would you? You have to understand the person you are “talking” too, knowing is half of communicating for example when I am talking to my 3 year old I have to use the verbal as well as body language. It takes a lot to get a message across to him due to his age and stage of development, now my 10 year old daughter has gotten way easier to talk to and it really helps as I build our relationship. So to say I have a preferred is an understatement and it is written, texting email and a good old fashioned letter are best for me.
“From a minor player in the healthcare industry a half century ago, to front and center of todays issues, health communications have become indispensable to the world we live in.” (Nancy, 2012). Communication is also known on a wider scale. It’s the same concept no matter the scale, it 's all about relaying a message and following up making sure it is received. The change from the way you communicate to another can make all of the difference, when you are speaking to a patient in the healthcare facility. You do not talk to family and friends the same way as that patient do you?
When you are talking to a patient you would make sure that he or she is getting the message as devastating as it might be. A good tool to do that or say you have a consumer that you want to have change their tone or her or his attitude, body language sent to a person by another can be a very powerful tool. Sending a message within a message sounds complicated and it is, but if you get it across you can change a person 's attitude.
Culture is a major thing to overcome when it comes to communication, you can make a person mad talking to them and moving a certain way. If I was to talk to a man from Asia and looking away at the things going on around them, or try to talk to one of the women there would also get the man very mad. They are also a type of person that likes to touch and hold hands and not going along with that will make him upset.
In closing, communication is how we advance in our world, and it is just as important to get the message as well as it is to relay it. Knowing the things to do and say are the way you get ahead mostly in healthcare, being a very good communicator and being able to handle a patient is what in my opinion is the most important no matter what the culture or barrier, getting past or over them can make you. Communicating well can also be a weight off your shoulders as well, I know if I 'm having a hard time relaying something to my smallest boy I get very stressed out and when he gets the message right away I feel a lot better.
