There are 6 main forms of communication that I will explain and give examples of.
Electronic communication:-
Telephone –Definition: A telephone is a system used to send speech over distances. So you can talk to someone in Japan while in England using a telephone which works as a transmitter and a receiver.
There are many ways you could use a telephone in the care home, e.g. as one of the elderly people could be ill one of the staff may call in to their GP and arrange for them to come down and do a check-up.
Computer –Definition: A computer is a machine which stores data that has been put on there; you are the controller of this machine.
The staff in the care home may use a computer to store the elderly clients data, so that it is organised and they can find it quickly. Also so that all of the staff is able to access the data.
Mobiles –Definition: Mobile phones have the exact same purpose as telephones however they are portable which is advantageous as you can be on the go and still contact people.
The mobile phone could be used in the care home to contact the client’s family or friends to arrange a meeting or to inform them about their client which is vital for them to know.
Written communication:-
Instructions –Definition: -Giving instructions is when you are telling someone to do what you just said, and follow their order.
Instructions can be used in the care home by the nurse that is taking care of the client to do something, as some clients may not be able to do some things they may require instructions to be told so that they are doing it correctly.
Letters –A definition: - A letter can be in different forms e.g. Written, typed, or printed which is a type of communication which is then sent in an envelope by post or through e-mail.
