In the film, union organizer Eduardo Pena says, “We want to pay the cheapest price for our food. We don’t understand that it comes at a price”.
I agree with this completely, our economy is going down the toilet. As the average family begins to grow, the amount spent on food decreases. This forces families to spend their money on the cheapest products at the grocery store. This is usually the junk food, genetically engineered food, and food with words on the label that no one even knows what they mean.
Thousands of companies everyday are finding ways to cut the cost of producing food. This includes changing the genetic makeup of food, adding preservatives and unhealthy chemicals, and feeding animals chemically engineered food to speed up their growth. All of these chemicals have a horrible affect on our bodies. Did you know our bodies take 5 extra years to decompose just because of all the preservative in our food? That amount of patients with cancer is increasing and many skeptics believe it to be linked to all the chemicals in our food. Also, because junk food and fast food is so cheap and easy to access to families, the obesity rate is the highest it has ever been.
Along with the listless health problems that come with the chemicals from our food, companies are turning their heads when there is a bacterial outbreak like salmonella. In the video, Kevin, who was two years old, died from coli. Big companies get away with killing people from these bacterial outbreaks everyday without a care in the world. People should be able to buy food and consume it with the confidence that they aren’t going to die from eating a meal.
The biggest problem with big companies getting away with all of this is our government. Our government isn’t regulating these companies as much as they should. This is because big business is paying politicians to campaign and sponsor them. Our government has become so corrupt that it
