In my opinion healthcare should be rationed because healthcare in many cases can be a scarce resource and all scarce resources are rationed in different ways. In countries with national healthcare system, rationing is done depending on medical needs. The urgent needs get sooner care. Crucial care is provided quickly, as compared to less urgent care which may take a while. In United States, however there is rationing not in true sense because people who have insurance get better and quicker care as compared to an uninsured person. Even though there are county hospitals and other health centers for the uninsured, but the quality of care as compare to a private hospital is questionable. The Pharamaceutical companies come up with new preciption medications and advertise it direct to consumers via advertisements in televisions and other media enticing to buy their product. Each new drug is more expensive than the previous one may be more effect, which contributes to rising healthcare costs. Health care should not be limited to persons physical health , ti should extent to their wholeness, therefore must include behaviorial,social and environmental determinanats of health. The policy must such that the care is affordable by all, accessible to all and provide competent care when the person is vunerable. As the old saying goes, “Prevention is better than cure”, so the policy should be such that it can be applied in the initial stages of an ailment. So that preventive care can be provided , rather than applied when it’s too late and expensive.
