Health promotion in American encompasses a diverse population that comes with many different issues pertaining to culture. Children born to immigrant families in addition to new immigrants arriving everyday are a contributing factor adding to the growing disparities in America. Experiencing one’s own culture is a crucial beginning to understand and comprehending the enormity of different cultures in America today. Health promotion it not just a healthy body, it entails the cultural background, race and ethnicity, education level, and the access to health care. (Perez & Luquis, 2014)

    A common theme that has been discussed regarding the adversities that immigrants experience when arriving to the America are the social and cultural clashes between immigrants and citizens. What I find interesting is the conflicts pertaining to the health care system. Based on previous lectures, immigrants tend to mistrust the American health care system due to difference in medical remedies and the language spoken. I know first-hand that my mother would prefer to have a Ghanaian physician, as opposed to the general white American doctor.
