I want to join NWRHS’s Health Science program because I want to learn more about health science, build on my education, and further my abilities for my future job as a plastic surgeon.
I expect to learn more than I already know about Health Science and I am eager to absorb what my teacher(s) will teach me in this program. When my teacher(s) covers something new with me in the program, I will go home and research even more information to provide additional thoughts to the lesson the next day. I am not the type of person to go home, not study, and think I will do better the next day; I study until I have a thorough understanding of the certain topic.
I’ve been an honor student for every grade since I’ve started school and I understand the importance of getting excellent grades. I have been recognized as ‘Cougar with Character’ for four straight years. My teachers always ask for me to participate in important events, such as band. I was one of the top 15 people to be elected to participate in a band clinic. I am currently in Algebra 1 and will be in Geometry next year. I am president in my science class and a leader in my other classes.
The NWRHS Health Science program should select me because of my past education success and leadership capabilities. If selected, I will push myself to do all I can for this program and to get the most out of the program. I’ve worked hard, gotten recognition, and taken accelerated courses to prepare myself for opportunities such as this. I’m following in my mom’s footsteps and setting myself up to be able to have a successful career. I am extremely excited and grateful to be given the opportunity to participate in this program to help me reach my future goals.

I want to be a part of HSTE II because in the future I want to be a doctor. Right now I’m not very sure about what kind of doctor I want to be that is why I really want to be in this program so that I can experience all the parts in a hospital and find what kind of areas in the medical field that I’m really interested in, and which ones just don’t fit me and my interests. I don’t want to choose a path that I will end up regretting just because I don’t enjoy what I do. I am a person who loves to help and care for people, especially the people who really need the help, and I am a very quick learner. I always try to put myself in other person’s position because believe in the saying “Treat others the way you would like to be treated”. I intend to bring these major qualities of mine to the HSTE II class/clinical rotations because I think it is very important for someone in the medical field who attends to other people when they are at their lowest and weakest point to have these…

This millennial generation is key in determining health care years from now. There must be a rallying up of diverse young students who are interested in pursuing a career in health. Oftentimes, it is intimidating and sometimes discouraging for minorities to really commit to going after a health care career due to the stigma that has been created due to the types of people who have taken and are taking the healthcare field by storm. Encouragement, information, training, and exposure can all be beneficial to a young minority student who is wanting to go into health. Things should take place and be done way before medical or graduate school. The Summer Health Professions Education Program is a great example of a program that is taking the initiative to do something to help students way before medical school. This program is designed to recruit and prepare young, diverse, underrepresented students who will lead in health care.
