There are many skills necessary to excel in the career of a health care manager. Competency and familiarity with the required tasks, skills and circumstances involved are vital qualities to possess. "Necessary tasks in producing services in healthcare organizations require the coordination of many highly specialized disciplines that must work together seamlessly" (Buchbinder, 2010). The purpose of this paper is to determine my aptitude for healthcare management using the Health Management Talent Quotient Quiz (Buchbinder, 2010), present my strengths and weaknesses, and discuss my experience and potential desire to work in healthcare management. I was delighted to see that I scored highly in readily comprehending information, problem-solving, and organization. I scored low in "planning a project/event is almost as much fun as doing it" (Buchbinder, 2010). I enjoy getting a project done and seeing the finished project, and need to improve upon my planning skills. I need to progress in my writing and public speaking skills. I also scored low in "I always try to look at the many sides of a question" (Buchbinder, 2010). This is an important healthcare management skill to have, ensuring that you can address all sides of the solution. Through the reading, I learned many skills are necessary for a healthcare management career. I found the talent quiz to be beneficial in learning my strengths and weaknesses and my abilities to work in management. Multiple skills need to be balanced correctly to be successful.
