Main Characters
Helen and Troy named after the fall of Troy, gladly this is not a retelling of that.
Helen can be self-conscious of shedding. She is afraid accidentally harming someone thanks to an accident. She is very strong due to her curse, but wears a prescription bracelet to reduce her strength. She is tired that being a minotaur is what everyone notices about her. Helen is observant and asks the questions during the quest. On the journey Helen learns to grow comfortable with her strength, and change her innate opinion about Troy. Troy looks like a Greek hero down to golden hair. He thinks the good of everyone, and people flock to him. He has never wanted for girls or friends. Helen is one of the few to argue with him. At first he is surprised, now he values her opinions. Troy during the journey grows to care for Helen and would give up his life to save a
friend.
Strengths- The two main character are evenly balanced. The humor is deadpan so self-aware it finds a hobbit with a ring. These jokes are quick, thankfully not the whole book. The book goes by very fast, the stops on the road trip are funny and serve a purpose. Hele and Troy are engaging particularly with the situations they stumble in. There are many charters taken from Greek and Roman mythology, but some fairy tales, and Russian folklore. Side characters are lively and memorable. Overall it is a road trip novel. Weaknesses-The romance of the book some may like it or leave it. It is not too much of the plot but it is there. The zany humor is a turn off some or the believability of the plot. The end is a little predictable.
Comments- This is akin to the writing style of Terry Pratchett. A book that is a fun read balanced with action. It does have a certain amount of gore in battle scenes. If a young adult likes this novel the author has same type of humor for all his books.
