Herbert C. Hoover
My president is Herbert Clark Hoover. Herbert Hoover was the 31st president. His time in office was not very pleasant for him or American. Here are some interesting facts about his life! Herbert Hoover was born on August 10, 1874 in West Branch, Iowa. His parents are Jesse Hoover and Huldan Minthorn Hoover. Herbert Hoover’s family was Quakers. He also has 2 siblings, 1 brother and 1 sister. Their names were Herbert Jr. and Allan. Herbert was also married to Lou Henry. Herbert never really graduated from high school. Although, he studied geology at Stanford University with the idea of becoming a mining engineer. After graduating, Hoover worked for a San Francisco engineering firm. Herbert Hoover was the secretary of commerce and possessor of a long record of humanitarian service. On March 4, 1929 Herbert Hoover was inaugurated the 31st president. He was a part of the Republican Party. His vice-president was Charles Curtis. Here are important events that occurred during his presidency: * On March 5, 1929 Herbert Hoover appoints Henry L. Stimson secretary of state. * On June 15, 1929 Hoover signs the Agriculture Marketing act to revitalize the increasingly poor market for farm products. * On October 24, 1929 on “Black Tuesday” the New York stock exchange experiences a collapse in stock prices as 13 million shares are sold. * On December 24, 1930 the bank of the United States in New York City, with 60 branches and 400,000 depositors, closes. It is merely the largest of the more than 1,300 banks closing across the country.
After his presidency, Herbert Hoover lived in Palo Alto, California. He was so wealthy and generous he didn’t have to work. He would sometimes spend his time fishing. Herbert Hoover died October 20, 1964 from colon cancer at the age of 90. His legacy is that Herbert Clark Hoover was the blame for the Great Depression.
