Heroin addiction is a scary thing. There are so many risks involved with this drug, it is difficult to understand why a person would want to even try it. The textbook mentions that experts consider heroin to be the most addictive of all the opioids, taking the drug for just a few weeks can result in its users the opioid use disorder. This is a disorder which can interfere with their daily lives, causing the drug to be the focus of their life. The textbook also mentions that the addict develops a tolerance for heroin, they must continue to increase the amount in order to feel the high. The most urgent danger of heroin is the overdose because it affects the function of the brain which in many situations produces death. The video mentions that
the amount of people who is addicted is growing and becoming an epidemic. With the addiction growing, overdoses and death from this drug are also increasing, up to five times more in the last decade. It is suggested in the video that states can help by supporting treatment and prevention effort, also by making the drug naloxone more available, this is a drug that can reverse an overdose. Since the video comes from a medical facility, I think the main purpose can be to make people aware this drug exists, they want to sell it. This type of drug could enable the addiction even more because the addict is aware that it can be taken in case of an overdose.
