Hey Bill Nye Analysis
The video that I am analyzing is "Hey Bill Nye, 'How Do We Know the Earth is Round?' #TuesdaysWithBill", and through critical analysis of this YouTube video, I believe flat earthers are this texts' intended audience. In this video Bill Nye discusses multiple reasons that, in his opinion, proves that the Earth is indeed, a globe. These videos produced by "Big think", a segment called "Hey Bill Nye", he replies to fan videos that are sent in, and typically science related questions and Bill Nye does his best to answer them.

The very first thing in this video is, well, another video, that being used as the opening question to which Bill Nye directs his response. Nye begins his response by repeating the question asked of him by the viewer, with

Why did Nye choose this as his first example? Flat earthers have a somewhat solid rebuttal to this claim, that is simply this, particles in the air and space around us create a dirty window effect, obscuring our view and making it impossible to see past a certain distance. Perhaps Nye should have started off the video with a more solid claim, as flat earthers would be considered conspiracy theorists, and those are naturally more sensitive types, and can be quite triggered by the display of knowledge they believe is debunkable and will jump on information they can prove is wrong or could even stand a chance of being wrong. Nye even repeats this example of proof at 2:14, saying that any flat earther should go out on a boat and take notice of the fact that they cannot see …show more content…
Are they real? Could the possibility exist of faked space exploration photos? This example, seems to be a solid point. With the existence of thousands of photos having been taken from space, of the Earth, one might think it would be next to impossible to have made sure that those all look similar in shape and detail. The flat Earthers however, believe since all photos taken by satellite have been digitally edited to make details more vivid and other undisclosed reasons, they are

Colbert uses connotative language, for example, he uses gay stamps for town people who are not gays. Also, in the beginning of the video, when they showed a map of USA, big states (California, Florida) were gone, because there are a lot of people with different orientation. The satiric says “We lost our big cities to gays, now we are losing our small towns.” Humorous, loud, sarcastic language was used in this video. The author uses a lot of time a word “gay”, that everything is “gay” in the town; “American traditional values are under attack”, “when it comes to fight the gay agenda, we already lost our big cities” are metaphors. In the last scene the viewers can hear and see, that Colbert is disgusted. Colbert uses this word choice to show the audience what is the reason of destroying American values in emotional way. Also some design elements features contribute to the emotional imaginative appeal of the argument. He uses bright, red, white and blue colors to reflect the patriotism in America. The graphics and images are used to persuade the audience that America is being threatened by passing this ordinance…

This explains why high altitude photographs are generally curved to produce the illusion of a round horizon.” All of this is compelling evidence. But you may not believe just any person, so I may be able to sway your decision with a quote from Kyrie Irving: “For what I’ve known for as many years and what I’ve been taught is that the Earth is round, but I mean, if you really think about it from a landscape of the way we travel, the way we move and the fact that can you really think of us rotating around the sun and all planets aligned, rotating in specific dates being perpendicular with what’s going on with these planets and stuff like this … It doesn’t come back. There is no concrete information except for the information that they’re giving us.” A very solid point Mr. Irving here’s another quote from Shaquille O’Neal: “It’s true. The Earth is flat. The Earth is flat. Yeah, it is. Yes, it is. Listen, there are three ways to manipulate the mind — what you read, what you see and what you hear. In school, first thing they teach us is, ‘Oh, Columbus discovered America,’ but when he got there, there were some fair-skinned people with the long hair smoking on the peace pipes. So, what does that tell you? Columbus didn’t discover America. So, listen, I drive from coast to coast, and this (expletive) is flat to me.…

Growing up we are all taught right from wrong, good from bad, pretty from ugly. We are also taught stereotypes and inappropriate judgment. Our parents and teachers tell us to express ourselves but we ultimately express what we’ve been taught, or what our enslaved minds have been trained to think. We have been taught to think that people covered in tattoos must be dangerous, and that girls who get drunk on a weekly basis must be trashy. The two images written about in “Who Is This Man, and Why Is He Screaming,” by Rachel Kadish and “Veiled Threat: The Guerilla Graffiti of Princess Hijab,” by Arwa Aburawa, are the perfect examples of how some of us have been able to think differently from our society and…

I knew that “global warming” was occurring as we speak and I knew that there were some dramatic effects from it.. I could not, however, even fathom how fast it was happening nor that some of the effects demonstrated were even possible. The amazon, ne of the wettest places on earth, could turn into an arid savanna.…

What would you do if death was after you? Well the people in this short story, "The Masque of the Red Death", decided to throw a party. I will be doing a short essay on this short story called, "The Masque of the Red Death", by Edgar Allan Poe. I think that Poe named the disease, “Red Death”, because There was blood everywhere! “Blood was its Avatar and its seal—the redness and the horror of blood”. People face death in different ways, like diseases, and accidents. Poe had faced death when many of his people that he loved died from tuberculosis. Poe had a really rough time through life, and he put a lot of his troubles in writing. The Red Death was personified as a character of this story. He reveals the fears and shortcomings of the other…

What would happen if tomorrow we were told that the Earth is flat? It would probably be the most important piece of news in the media and would generate a lot of debate on weather it was true or not. So why is it that when scientists who have studied the global warming phenomenon for years say that humans are not the cause nobody listens? Global warming is not due to human contribution of Carbon Dioxide (CO2). This in fact is the greatest deception in the history of science. In fact, global warming is a natural occurrence that cannot be stopped; as humans all we can do is slow down this occurrence.…

My faith accepts no contradictions; so again, this is an example of how the Bible was meant to be interpreted. According to the Bible, the Earth is flat. How can Young Earth Creationists accept this? They don't. Why they selectively choose to believe certain parts of the Bible and not others is beyond me.
