the prices? The price of college should be decreased.
The first topic that there is an issue with is there is a large majority of students that drop out of college because they either can’t afford it, don't need it for the job they want, or just can’t stand it. With that many people dropping out the push to go to college needs to stop. It should be a person's choice and not a requirement in order to be successful. For example look one of the top CEO’s of the country such as Steve Jobs he went to Reed College just to drop out. He proves that you don't need college to be successful. Also people follow the “money trail”, they go to college just to get a job that makes lots of money. People should be following what they love to do. That's how you get people that are passionate about what they do and provide the best service to a customer.
The second thing that should change in the college system is the amount of money it costs to go. For the other majority that can’t afford college but love something that requires college education to be that. Even with college grants or scholarships some people aren’t fortunate enough to have the funds for colleges. Laura Tholatorres states: If a person out there has the intelligence to help the world out with their science or math skills and don't have the money to go to college, the world would be missing out.
People who have potential and the knowledge to go to college and make a difference won't be able to do so if they don't have the money. In Europe, some colleges and top universities are free! People like Leonardo Da Vinci, attended colleges in Europe. People should all have equal opportunities and should be able to pursue their dreams. If colleges were free, who knows what the world might have invented today. Maybe a cure for cancer? Or a new object that can better our daily lives. But we won't know since colleges are not …show more content…
free”(Tholatorres).
This is the right way to approach this topic because it allows people that are less fortunate to advance their education.
The third topic is about having a staggering amount of debt in the US. The United States should have way to reduce the cost all together to go to college. According to a study by Federal Reserve of New York, “America owes over 1.3 trillion dollars”. That passes the total amount of credit card debt which is 762 billion. All of this debt the United States has could be a big problem if it’s not paid off. The 1.3 trillion is owed by 44 million people that relatively speaking are under 30 years old. That’s a lot of money for people who probably don’t even have a full time job yet. How do colleges expect these people to pay them off. The study that says college student make more money is true but can be challenging when they have several different other loans to tend to at once. Take into account that they also might have a house or apartment payment, and a new car loan. All of that money they owe all without a secure job. In a study by AfterCollege states that, “Fresh out of College people are more likely to get laid off first.” There is enough evidence that shows that college’s tuition cost should be lowered.
The other people disagree because they say someone has to pay for it if the student is not paying for it then the government has to and they are in enough debt the way it is. The washington Examiner states, “
At last count our national debt was approaching $20 trillion. Mounting evidence indicates that student debt, which now exceeds $1.2 trillion, is threatening economic growth. Decades of government "financial aid" have done little to help and, according to any number of studies, have probably made matters worse, encouraging colleges and universities to increase tuition and fees. The last thing we should be doing is spending another $80 billion or more over the next decade on public two-year colleges where barely one in five students earns a degree in three years.”
For this reason we couldn’t afford free college and wouldn’t be reasonable because the US would be in so much debt that it would stunt economic growth. There is another way to be able to give people lower cost of college without stunting economic growth. Hillary Clinton says, “The plan calls for giving grants to states. Grants are money given to states from the federal government. They help boost other financial aid to students, and help pay for living costs and tuition.” This means that the US government would pay for some but not all of college so it wouldn’t be as much money and should be manageable. This also allows people in the lower class to go to college and because of this there would be more smart people going to college. This could be a cause to an effect of something big like the cure of cancer.
In summary there should be a lowered cost of college.
The cost should be lowered for all of the people wishing to continue on their pursuit of education. The cost of items in store decrease when there is more people buying it so why is it not the same for colleges. It is a necessity to lower the amount of debt in the US which tuition by it self is 1.3 trillion. For the average student 37,000 dollar fee should be lowered substantially to account for today's job market. Besides the amount amount of money should be proof enough but to have only 14% have a job waiting for them in an unstable economy is scary. There is no question here the cost of college tuition should be
lowered.
