Why college shouldn’t be free In the past years college education has been an arguable topic because college is such a big accomplishment in our society now. There is no doubt that there are students who would use this opportunity and run with it. But does that mean all students? There are kids in high school, where for the most part is free, and they don’t take it seriously. Although College being free would be a benefit for a population of students, there are many reasons why it should not. College is for the purpose of an education and even a career if you choose to pursue it. It is a higher level of education for those students who are serious about their education. College is very successful with the lowest graduation rate being 30.6%

Therefore, someone has to pay for the college expenses for students to attend. These people will include taxpayers and cutting services (Glenn 3). Because society would feel like their money is being wasted for ungrateful college students they would become angry. Making college free doesn't solve the problem, it pushes it elsewhere.
Public generosity will become scarce, causing the anger and problems to increase with society. Making college free will also put a strain on public budgets and there will be a thirst for more money. Problems will arise with finding money because taxpayers are already paying as much as they are going to want to. In some ways making college free is a great idea. It helps the students who want to push their education further and can't pay for it get the education they need. In many cases college is essential, it makes it much easier to find a job and get a good education. This doesn’t help the students who don’t care about college and just go for the fun of it, only a small population of students will appreciate it the rest will take advantage.
