Growing up my mom has always encouraged my siblings and I to continue our education to as far as college. My mother never really got the chance to attend college because her family could not afford to put all their kids in school. She had seven siblings and an extra bill for school was not something her parents were able to afford. I consider myself really lucky to be alive in a time where there are so many opportunities to be able to afford college. If it were not for scholarships and financial aid, my mother’s story would be repeated once again. Through financial aid, the door for a college career is opened for me and I’m willing to enter it. My biggest motivator to push myself academically has been my…

Education plays a huge role in everyone’s life, and college is not cheap. Not everybody is eligible to receive aid from the government, such as Pell Grant, HOPE Grant, or Zell Miller. Some people have the financial ability to pay for college and…
Due to my family’s financial state, finances were my biggest concern for college when selecting a quality institution that was most affordable. Thankfully, I am financially supported by the Pell Grant, Georgia's Zell-Miller Scholarship, the University of Georgia's One scholarship for diversity, and my work as a resident assistant. Because of these resources, I am able to pursue higher education without significant financial burdens. My experiences related to financial difficulties have enabled me to be appreciative of the privileges I have now and to empathize with everyone I meet, no matter what type of background they come from.…
I always wanted to go to college growing up, but because of my family, along with my sisters and myself, were born and raised in a refugee camp in Nepal, I had a feeling that college was a dream that would not come true for me. In 2012, we came to Salt Lake City, Utah. The school I did was from 9th grade. After resettlement in the United States, my parents are still struggling to look after the educational future of me and my sisters. My family said if I could find a way to pay for college. I began to apply for many scholarships, which would help to fulfill my dream and desire.…
Dedicated students work hard to have good GPAs. They stay awake late doing homework and projects. These students always participate in class, and turn work in on time. As well as dedicating a lot of their time to school, making A honor roll or A&B honor roll through all the four years in high school and receiving awards based on their dedication. Even after doing all of this, when they become high school seniors, they have a giant problem ahead of them: How do I pay for college? Students whose families live in bad conditions do not have the extra money for college. They only have enough money to pay for the necessities such as rent, bills and clothes. This leaves these students who have the dedication, motivation, and work hard without any…
In a society where a college education is necessary to attain a job, people will pay any price to get a degree. Since 1965 government assistance programs such as FAFSA have made attending college much more simple for the working class. However, such programs focus much of their efforts on assisting lower income students and fail to contribute to students from middle class families. Middle class students or their parents are caught in a situation in which they must pay for all of their college funds, or they are put into debt from the outrageous amount of loans. Financial aid is based off of the parent’s income until the age of 25, but there are situations in which not parents are able or willing to pay for their child’s education due to the high cost of tuition. Complications of financial aid arise due to the lack of focus in financial assistance for students who come from middle class families. Due to the complications of the financial aid system students from the middle class are forced to choose cheaper schools, go into debt, or enter the work force, yet prices of getting an education are only getting higher. For middle class families options to pay for school are very limited, without financial aid or the funds to pay, a life of debt and worry surely waits.…
Going to college has been taught to be the next step in education after graduating high school but is it truly that easy? The main factor to attending college now is the money issue. In today’s generation receiving a scholarship would be the best way to get through college without the burden of student loan debt piling up as you get further into college. Even though financial aid is available for students seeking college education, some of those students will not all qualify for financial aid. With them not being able to qualify, it leaves taking out student loans to afford those college expenses. By them having no other option but to take out student loans, it is the start to a long road of student loan debt issues.…
Higher education is extremely important in American society today in order to get a well-paying job and earn enough money to pay off bills. Unfortunately, in order to pay for higher education students are becoming more reliable on financial aid in order to help pay for just one semester of college, which can cost up to $20,000. Many people may say that it is crucial to pay all of this money in order to attend college, but most students are being put into debt, they are being required to take out loans, and most of the money that students pay towards their college tuition does not benefit them directly.…
Throughout the United States, many young adults are piled with debt due to the excessive costs of a college education. Today in 2017, Americans owe more than 1.4 trillion dollars in student loan debt. In the United States, college is more expensive than almost any other country. Overall, it limits students abilities to reach their full potential. This impacts many families, even my own, from coast to coast. My family is middle class and I know there are plenty of families out there who have children that want to attend college, but are limited due to not being able to afford it. This is very significant to me as I see my older cousin, Katie, who now lives in Tennessee, struggle to even pay her bills as a high school teacher due to the amount of…
In today’s society, college has become less of an option and more of a necessity. College is required for many various professions, and the cost of tuition seems to have a lasting effect on many Americans. Although having a college education will help someone receive higher pay and become more successful, the stress of college debt is taking a toll on graduates. Most college graduates will be paying for college loans for many years after they graduate. The continuing rise of college tuition is also hindering many people to have the desire to attend college. Like anything, education has its cost and it doesn’t come cheap. The average college student graduates with a minimum of 30,000 dollars in debt ("College Costs:…
The rapidly increasing cost of college is resulting in the many people left with no other choice than to join the work force right after high school. Less than 5% of high school students who enter the work force attend a secondary education later in life. In 1971, the cost of one year at an institution was between $200 and $2,600. During that point in time, the price of attending a secondary school was seventeen times less than it is today. (Schoen, John W.) On average a college student pays $24,610 a year to attend a public college.(What's the Price Tag for a College Education) That it only the price of tuition. Students also have to pay for room and board, food, books and supplies, and the necessities for daily living. After four years of a public secondary school, an average student pays $1,298 on books alone, not to mention the expenses of a food plan or living quarters. (Understanding College Costs) But nevertheless there is financial aid to help afford college. Two thirds of the nations full-time college students pay for college with local and government scholarships and grants. Each year in the United States, the United States Department of Education awards 46 billion dollars in scholarships to students attending a secondary school. An additional 3.3 billion is given in gift aid by foundations, businesses, churches, and non-profit organizations.(Barr, Cecillia) There are also need-based aid like the…
