In March 2015, Hilary Clinton came into the public limelight after she was exposed that she used a private email server for official communications. This happened when she was the United States Secretary of State. This was breaking the regulations since she was supposed to utilize the official state Department email accounts that are maintained on Federal government servers. She also deleted 32,000 emails that she claimed to be private (Dinan, 2015). By doing this, she defied State Department procedures and protocols and also the Federal legislation that govern the requirements for recordkeeping. In her 2016 presidential campaigns, Hilary Clinton has set her economic policy goals. Her …show more content…
economic priority is to raise income (Bradner, 2015). She advocates for continued growth that will create more jobs forcing firms to compete aggressively for workers. She also promised to improve the infrastructure. She also promised tax breaks for the companies that promote employee ownership (Clinton & Chalfant, 2014). All this economy plans could be affected by the E-mail scandal.
The use of private servers for official purposes then deleting some brought out Hilary Clinton as not transparent. She was supposed to use Department email accounts for the purpose of recordkeeping in case something came up (Clark & Pico, 2015). Using her personal mail does not follow business ethics, this means the people who were supporting her mainly due to her economic policies may have to rethink since she may not be transparent. The other allegation is that she kept the whole thing a secret then lied when she got caught. This lowered her honesty and trustworthiness ratings (Dinan, 2015). The question in many of business men's mind is, how do we know if she is not lying? This will affect her plans in that entrepreneurs will not give her an easy time (Clinton & Chalfant, 2014). She will face barriers since people have lost trust in her and it will take the time to regain that.
When Hilary was summoned about the issue, her response was very slow (Bradner, 2015). This questions her ability to acknowledge and handle a crisis. When confronted with this matter, she acted improperly and portrayed poor judgment. The economic plans she has in place requires a lot of patience and alertness to implement. How she handled the email saga brought her out as somehow weak and this shall affect her plans. Instead of accepting and trying to rectify the mistake as a good economist would do, she characterized this saga as media conspiracy and communication failure (Bradner, 2015). This brought her out as someone who lacks the skills required to implement such important policies. This is because, in politics, there is always someone trying to bring someone down and if one do not have the necessary skills, they will not survive the political blows.
Another way in which the saga can affect her plans is that she might not even get elected. A lot of Americans may have lost confidence in her since she that is highly classified information that she dealt with carelessly. The server she used was personal, and it was not secured, this gave hackers a way to the highly classified information, and this is a matter of national security (Bowes & Cohen, 2015). This means some people may consider her as not the most eligible candidate since she cannot be trusted with managing the country's security. This in a way shows that Clinton does not have her priorities set right, she valued her convenience over matters of national security (Dinan, 2015). If this becomes the case, Clinton’s economic plans will be affected in the way that she will not have the opportunity to implement them. This whole saga brought her out as reckless and carefree. When confronted about the matter she clearly stated that she did not know if the information was classified. That is no way defense and especially when it is coming from a leader. Americans may lose confidence in her and may not entrust the economy to her.
This scandal brought out Hilary as a corrupt person.
The scandal linked her to other white house cover ups. It revived memories of her prior controversies and cover-ups such as the Watergate scandal (Bowes & Cohen, 2015). People may think that she used a private server to help her hide from the public eye. It also brought her out as someone who does not believe in her policies. It brought her out as her enemy in the sense that she criticized George W. Bush government earlier in 2007 for its secret Whitehouse email accounts. If indeed Hilary is corrupt, implementing her economic plans will be hard. This scandal led to many people believing she is corrupt, and this means many people will perceive her plan as just another political plot and hence not support her in the implementation phase (Bowes & Cohen, 2015). As seen above, she criticized a policy that she later used, it will be hard for the people of America to believe in her if she cannot believe in herself.
In conclusion, it is evident that Hilary Clinton’s email scandal might greatly affect the economy plans she is presenting. If Hilary Clinton attains the presidency come 2016, she will have evaded one barrier to her economic plans. Becoming the next president will be her major worry since to implement the plans, it will be only possible if she is president. She might be honest, but this scandal painted her as another person. To attain her economic goals, first of all, she has to retain the trust in people. She will need the support of the business community and women for a smooth implementation of the
policies.
