It is a mountain range in Asia separating the Indian sub-continent and the Tibetan plateau. The Himalayas include over a hundred mountains exceeding 7,200 metres in height. Many Himalayan peaks are sacred in both Hinduism and Buddhism. They maintain a balance in the climate by blocking the ice cold winds emerging from the North Pole and Russia and that’s why India is not so cool. They protect India from the attacks from countries like china and Pakistan and act as a natural shield for our country. Presently the Himalayas are facing challenges created by the human race as well as nature. Global warming has caused some very threatening changes in the ecosystem and that has affected the Himalayas. For example the recent floods in Uttrakhand are a result of human interference with the nature. The tourists pollute different rivers that emerge from the Himalayas like Indus and Beas leading to severe flooding across a large amount of land and even cloud bursting. we must ensure that we don’t pollute the pristine environment. This can be done by simple steps like not throwing the waste anywhere and minimizing the use of vehicles, plastics & things that cause pollution. We should make people aware of the losses of polluting the environment of the Himalayas. This can be done by simply making the people aware about its long term losses to the Indian Citizens living in north and central India. If the Himalayas are completely polluted, India will lose a lot of protection like from China and there will be severe cold all across India.
