Sir Edmund Hillary (in source 1) was the first to scale Mount Everest and he was also the first to want to clean it. A quote from Source 1 demonstrates this is, “Hillary was also concerned with the environment. He helped establish reforestation programs in Nepal”. In source 2 it says, “Climbers have removed more than 13 tons of garbage from Everest”. This quote proves that Mount Everest is very polluted and the Eco Everest Expedition is trying to clean up the mess. The expedition has removed large quantities of garbage and they are still removing more. Along with the removal of garbage the Eco Everest Expedition has been reinforcing that climbers remove their own trash too. The text states, “By mid-2013, a total of nearly 4,000 people had reached the mountain’s summit. With that number of people comes an even greater amount of food containers, tents, empty oxygen canisters, and even human waste”(source 2).
With over 4000 people climbing the mountain it makes sense why there are also so many people trying to clean it up. All the climbers going up have really polluted the place. The Eco Everest Expedition formed to bring back the mountains glory but, with all the climbers leaving trash behind it might not be possible.
In conclusion, Mount Everest has been extremely polluted by climbers over the years. However, there are people cleaning that up like the Eco Everest Expedition and Sir Edmund Hillary. If the mountain is to be returned to its original state it's going to take a lot of
