Mountaintop mining is the act of removing resources from mountains until there is nothing left of it. The mountain becomes hollow and is left standing there. The worst part of all is that during the operation so much pollution is being distributed into our atmosphere, that it has become one of the biggest reasons why our earth is dying. Mountaintop mining is horrible because it destroys ecosystems and damages biodiversity over an extreme scale.
Too many acres of biodiversity has been damaged.
724+ miles of streams have been completely buried because of mountaintop mining between 1985-2001.
The land that is being destroyed are homes to animals. These animals no longer have homes because of this and they are dying. Once all the animals are gone we won't have anything to eat and we will all starve …show more content…
Without any water, there is a 100% chance we will die. Water is the first thing we need when it comes to surviving. Fruits and veggies have water too sure, but they need water in order to grow. Every organism needs water, it's impossible to live without it.
Organisms that live in streams help us. For example, Mrs. Strachan claims that algae make up 80% of our oxygen and that without them, we would suffocate because of the lack of oxygen. Fish keep our ecosystems in balance, so it won't come crashing down for the lack of food.
Some people may think that it helps our ecosystem by giving jobs to those who need it and others think that it helps us by giving us coal for trains and fire. This is all true, however, there is more damage done than it's helped.
Mountaintop Mining hurts us in every way possible. It hurts our air, food source, animals, our body and our homes. It should be the thing we keep our eyes on at all times
Mountaintop mining should be the first thing we get rid of if we want to heal our earth again. It's a big step to a healthy world.
