Like this New York developed its own style-identity by combining vintage, luxury and ethnic trends. While in California back-to-nature hippies were into vibrant music scene, mild climate, and relaxed mood. In San Francisco there was a place called “The Haight” that was like a magnet for young people who were interested in exploring hippie lifestyle. (Whitley 2013) People who went there used to connect with the nature and celebrate peace and love.
By the end of 60s, young people were accepting and adopting the new trend, but it was more about style and accessories and not about activism. The main attributes of this hippie style were flowers, beads, sandals, American Indian leather and fringe, and colorfully tie-dyed T-shirts and if a person from previous generation would see anyone with long hair and being unconventionally dressed, he/she would consider this person as a hippie.
