Hiring By Diversity
Most small businesses today are mainly family owned, and want to hire only the people they want working for their company, which means family, a certain race, or stature. This does not seem like a bad idea from a far that it is just people hiring family cause they know them, and the other reasons because they went to the same school as them or they just feel more comfortable. Though some people think this is fine that they hire whom they want, but is not fair and risky especially hiring only family. Hiring family always seems like a good idea because they are always there to help, and should not cause any trouble while working. Though companies still need to hire diversity, which is not based on what people look like. Hiring by diversity means hiring people that are not similar in many ways like personality, life experiences, and different backgrounds. With companies not wanting to hire diversity, are really digging themselves in a hole because their business will only reach a certain group of people that are similar to them. Companies hire people that are similar because they feel more comfortable with it, but it is not fair to people who are not similar to everyone else. Though companies that do not hire diversity do not realize that it is an advantage for business. “Racially diverse workforces are associated with more customers, increased sales revenue, greater relative profits and greater market share.” (Guardian. (2016).) With hiring diversity, it also makes employees feel comfortable at work. “It is those organizations that have very different types of people that are the organizations which tend to have very vibrant cultures, which are more innovative and where people feel a greater capacity to speak and feel safe, and feel acknowledged in their work.” (Guardian. (2016).) This is another good reason why it is a good idea in hiring diverse people because it is proven that it makes employees more comfortable at work, and if employees are happy their productivity could …show more content…
There is no law saying that companies cannot hire based on looks, but it seems unfair because people are not always attractive to certain people. Though attractive people have a better chance of influencing employers. “Attractiveness has been found to influence employers’ judgments about job applicants. Studies have consistently found that we tend to have an unconscious attractiveness bias in the workplace and that physical attractiveness impacts decisions related to employment including hiring, promotions, and compensation.” (A. (n.d.). ERC) Though I still believe that people should be only hired on their skills and personality for the job because those are more important characteristics for the job. Companies are still going to hire who they want if it is all family, people of a certain race, or stature. This process is not fair and companies should change to make the hiring process open to everyone. Companies who still want to hire people they want should understand that they need to hire them based on their skill, and not because they are related, a certain race, or how attractive they are. I believe that companies should be more open to hiring other people that are not in companies comfort zone, and that it could give them more of advantage in the work
