The first important fact I learned while reading this book is that about 100,000 people were killed, only six people survived. One of the survivors, Mr.Tanimoto had heard about raids in other nearby towns. Mr. Tanimoto had worried that something would happen to Hiroshima too. The night before the city was destroyed Mr.Tanimoto did not sleep because of anxiety and the warnings.
The second important fact I learned in this book was that the Ota River contained three quarters of the population. The
Ota River was a commercial and residential district for the city. The several evacuation programs evacuated about 130,000 people. The bomb hit in the central area of the city, the evacuation programs took the people farther to the edges of the city.
The three new words I learned are reconnaissance, bedrolls, and dazed. Reconnaissance is a search made for useful military information in the field, especially by examining the ground. A Bedroll is bedding that rolls up for portability and is used especially for sleeping out-of-doors. Dazed means to be stunned or stupefied with a blow or shock.
