“Shingas asked General Braddock, whether the Indians that were friends to the English might not be permitted to Live and Trade among the English and have Hunting Ground sufficient to Support themselves and Familys....”
As I was reading this quote, I think this quote represents how racist people in the old days were. Indians that were friends to the English might not be permitted to Live and Trade. It was because of the war with the British. Racism is generally understood as either belief that different racial groups are characterized by intrinsic characteristics or abilities and that some such groups are therefore naturally superior to others, or as practices that discriminate against members of particular racial groups, for example by perpetuating unequal access to resources between groups. I think that racism often happens because of ones ego and one think that they are more superior to others. Although there is still some racism happening out there nowadays, I think that it has diminished over time since in the world nowadays we are more diverse and people begin to adopt other cultures and improving their cultural practices.
“Inasmuch as the primary object of a government, beyond the mere repression of physical violence, is the making of the rules which determine the property relations of members of society, the dominant classes whose rights are thus to be determined must perforce obtain from the government such rules as are consonant with the larger interests necessary to the continuance of their economic processes, or they must themselves control the organs of government.”
This quote to me, clearly tells that government are really in charge, they are the ones who is making the rules that determine the norms of a community. Just like China, my dad always said that actually China has more freedom or has equal amount of freedom with the United States. But, you can never oppose the government or insult the government in any means or
