The objective of this course was to familiarize us, graduate students, on various research-oriented topics as well as other useful resources required for the successful completion of our degree and research. Apart from learning about various technical subjects, I had the wonderful opportunity to understand how my attitude should be towards life and my research in order for me to be in successful in life. During Prof. Charles Swenson's presentation, one of the quotes by Richard
Hamming, which is as follows: "I have to get you to drop modesty and say to yourself, ``Yes, I would like to do first-class work.'' Our society frowns on people who set out to do really good work. You're not supposed to; luck is supposed to descend on you and you do great things by chance. Well, that's a kind of dumb thing to say. I say, why shouldn't you set out to do something significant. You don't have to tell other people, but shouldn't you say to yourself, ``Yes, I would like to do something significant.''" instantly were stuck in my brain. These words made me feel that even "I want to do something significant, something different and something new/novel". Since then, I have been repeating these words to myself everyday to gain confidence and a proper attitude to not only completely my
Master's but to do a significant research work.
Prof. Zejlko Pantic's and Prof. Rajnikanth Sharma's research work clearly stated the future that is waiting for us would be completely different from the present that we live in. Dr. Pantic's research topic on "Wireless Power Transfer" was very invigorating and using this idea for dynamically charging electric cars was simply innovative. Dr. Sharma's DRONES were outstanding. It was a delight to watch those Quad-rotors fly. During this course, I even became familiar with the various resources that USU provides me in order to help me in completion of my research.
