History of Nursing

I better understood nursing after reading about the history and foundations of nursing. After learning about the history of nursing I have come to the conclusion that my profession is built upon the hard work and dedication of many other people throughout the ages.
One of the trends in the nursing practice is the decision making process. As I’m working in the OR (Operation Theater) I plan my procedure setting after talking to the patient and taking history, because nurses choose history to make their meaningful decision. The health of not just the individual but the family and community is affected by the decisions made by a nurse. I take decision about how the room should be set such as; like the position of the patient, the equipment needed, and the temperature of the room. The second trend is nursing history shows how modern technology has raised and highered the standard for the nursing degree. The old view for the needs of the patient was operated with simple equipment, now technology are available making the care delivery an easier task for nursing, more efficient, and safer. The third trend that influenced my perspective of nursing practice is education. The past had very different training and education for nurses than what we have now. In the past people were using herbs mixed with wine was used to sedate the patient instead of anesthetic gases that we use now. Back then any run-of-the mill person could be called a doctor or nurse. Now nurses are required to attend collages and be licensed, due to the specialization of nursing practices and advancements. This has helped to earn my certification in the OR, and now able to start my journey to my BSN. These trends have greatly influenced my perception of nursing.
