Have you ever wondered how volleyball originated? We all know how basketball started with the peach basket, but know one really knows how volleyball started. Many people should understand how volleyball started because it is a pastime favorite that people still enjoy to this day. Because volleyball has had such an impact on America’s pastime, people should understand more about how it originated, the various types of volleyball, and the changes that have been made to the game. Volleyball started in 1895 by William G. Morgan, who was a YMCA instructor. William created volleyball by combining basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball. it originated in Holyoke, Massachusetts, and was originally called mintonette (how volleyball was introduced). In 1896 after a game at the YMCA in Springfield, someone offered the thought of volleyball since the players were volleying the ball back and forth(history of volleyball 1).
