goal of the game was a little bit different, but the fundamentals were still the same. The public started to grow very fond of the game, and watching games became a popular pastime. The rivalries would grow so intense that violence would sometimes break out in the stands and there were frequent incidents. People also say that soldiers of the Royal Guard loved the sport so much, that they would skip archery practice and training to go to the games. This made the king at that time, King Edward III, very angry, so he banned soccer in the year 1365.
King James in 1424 often denounced soccer, due to the military’s indulgence and public violence and unrest. Eventually, soccer was allowed again, around the 17th or 18th centuries. In 1815, there was a huge advancement in soccer. Universities and schools now had teams. Eton College and the English school came up with some reforms known as the Cambridge rules. They prohibited all of the violence that had been encouraged before. People who still wanted this violence moved on to rugby. In October of 1863, eleven representatives of different teams and schools met up to from the new rules and fundamentals for the sport, which is what we use today. This meeting formed the Football Association. In the later 1860’s, more rules were made and soccer was becoming increasingly popular. Merchants, traders, sailors and more would introduce this sport to people all over the world when they
traveled. Many countries started forming leagues and countries in South America like Brazil and Argentina started playing soccer too and in 1904, the International Federation of Association Football, FIFA for short, was founded. FIFA was the organization to hold the first world cup for soccer. Since then, soccer has immensely grown and many teams have been formed. People root of the FIFA World Cup every four years, and soccer will continue to grow and will always remain popular.
