History Paper 3
The phrase “shifting to the left” came into effect after the war. This phrase meant that the people believe that accepting Marx’s ideas are better to rebuild the country instead Smith’s ideas. Marx ideas were for the people to work together as a community instead of individualism. The phrase “decolonization” meant that the country should give up the idea of having an empire and to leave other colonies alone. There should be human rights and that colonies should be independent. John Maynard Keynes was an economist who became a “reformed capitalist”. Keynes thought capitalism was good but has to be reformed some. The Marshal Plan was a gift from the US to all Western Europe in 1945. It was to stop communist influence in the region and to help rebuild the economy. NATO was a voluntary military union started by the US in order help European allies restores and maintain security of the North Atlantic area. The terms to NATO were that all countries are equal, and when there is danger everyone will act immediately to give help. The US started NATO but they are just temporarily the leader until there is another commander elected. NATO was put together to go against the Soviet Union. The four powers that occupied Germany after World War 2 were Soviet, American, British, and French. The political system of power for the American, British, and French was democratic. The political system of power for the Soviet was dictatorship. The “Warsaw Pact” was created after NATO was created. The Soviet Union created a military union in Eastern Europe. Stalin ordered those countries to belong to the Warsaw Pact. The phrase “the Cold War” describes hostility without military action. Instead countries put sanctions on each other and try to damage the opposite country economically (food, technology, etc). The United Nations organization was organized by the Soviet Union, US, and UK in 1945. The purpose of this organization was to prevent war, prevent suffering, and help in case of a

From the end of the Civil War until the turn of the century there were many changes in American society. While some may see these changes as all beneficial, others will argue that the changes made in American society from 1865 to 1910 were mainly detrimental. When we talk about history, its difficult to say if it was good or bad. Throughout history some groups of people have benefited, while others were harmed. Not everyone can prosper from the same event; there will always be winners and losers.…

Hammurabi’s Code and Ben Zhao’s Instruction manual for Women, both establish similar gender norms about the female sex. One example of a gender norm established by the two is the emphasis of a women’s protection of her purity before marriage. For example Hammurabi’s code states “Again, there must be no marriage with a prostitute, since by reason of the abuse of her body. God could not accept her nuptial sacrifices.”(pg. 16). The code says that a women’s virginity is sacred and a gift given to God and her husband at marriage, it is her virtue and without it she has nothing of value. There is also a similar opinion given in Ben Zhao’s instructions that says “To guard carefully her chastity; to control circumspectly her behavior; in every motion to exhibit modesty; and to model each act on the best usage, this is womanly virtue” (Ben Zhao). He is essentially saying the same thing, a women’s chastity is what makes her respectable and gives her validity. However, while Both Hammurabi’s Code and Ben Zhao’s manual share similar gender norms, they also establish gender norms that are the opposite of each other, such as the behavior and role of women in society. For example Ben Zhao says “Let a woman modestly yield to others; 1et her respect others; let her put others first, herself last. Should she do something good, let her not mention it; should she do something bad let her not deny it. Let her bear disgrace; let her even endure when others speak or do evil to her.”(Ben Zhao). Ben Zhao believes that a women’s role is to please others, never themselves, to do good and receive nothing, but be punished and humiliated for wrong doing. However King Hammurabi thinks the opposite “If a women quarrel with her husband… the reasons for her prejudice must be presented. If she is guiltless… but he leaves and neglects her, then no guilt is attached to this women; she shall take her dowry and return to her father’s house” (pg.…

In 1982 Eric Foner, a historian and writer, penned an article called “Reconstruction Revisited”. In this article he expressed his views on the Reconstruction period of American history, and how this period of time had become the subject of much debate. To begin this discussion Foner writes, "historians have failed to produce a coherent modern portrait of Reconstruction.”1 To back this statement, Foner uses specific examples stemming from the different schools of thought to come of studying Reconstruction and how much they have varied, both from each other and sometimes the truth.…

Cyrus launched Persia’s imperial venture, and his conquests laid the foundation for the first Persian Empire. In 585 B.C.E. Cyrus became king of the Persian tribes and in 553 B.C.E. he initiated a rebellion against his median overlord, and he succeeded after 3 years. By 548 B.C.E. he had all of Iran under his control and in 546 B.C.E. he conquered the powerful kingdom of Lydia in Anatolia. Between 545 B.C.E. and 539 B.C.E he campaigned in central Asia and Bactria and in 539 B.C.E., after a quick campaign, he seized Babylonia, and their vassal states immediately recognized Cyrus as their lord. Within a period of 20 years, Cyrus went from a minor regional king to the ruler of an empire that stretched from India to the border of Egypt. Cyrus managed to expand the empire by using the wealth and resources he had attained after conquering Lydia to extend Persian authority to new lands and build the earliest set of vast imperial states of classical times.…

The civil war in Greece between the Communist People's Liberation Army and the anti-Communist forces over control of Greece led to the creation of the Truman Doctrine. It stated that if the Soviets were not stopped in Greece the US would have to face the spread of communism worldwide. President Truman was concerned about the possibility of Soviet expansion, and the Truman Doctrine paved the way for US funding to countries who were threatened by it. The Marshall Plan was based on the belief that Communist aggression fed off economic turmoil and provided funding for the recovery of Europe. Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and the Soviet Union became a military alliance in the Warsaw Pact which was divided from NATO. At the end of World War II, the Soviets occupied all of Eastern Europe and the Balkans except for Greece, Albania, and Yugoslavia. Both Albania and Yugoslavia had Communist resistance movements during the war and the Communist Party assumed power when the war ended. Communist governments were placed in East Germany, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Hungary and later Czechoslovakia. Hungary attempted to become independent from Soviet control but was crushed by the Soviet Union's armed forces in 1956. The Red Army attacked Budapest after Nagy, the Hungarian leader, declaring…

Americans have well understood the significance of the phrase, "All men are created equal." Throughout the history of the United States, the meaning of the phrase " All men are created equal" has changed and expanded. When this statement was written in the Constitution, it was to ensure that people in America would never be subject to a tyrannical and oppressive rule that benefited only the upper class and those in Britain. The people occupying America before the American Revolutionary War were taxed unfairly and weren't allowed representation despite providing much profit for Britain. This led to uprisings against British rule and eventually a war which resulted in America becoming an independent nation. At this point in America's history, equality meant every man had a say in how he was governed and should have equal rights so the majority would be satisfied and wouldn't revolt.…

The website I found this document on was on the website titled greatamericandocuments.com. The difference between colonial women and women in today’s world is quite significant. Colonial women had nowhere near the amount of civil rights that women have today. Being a woman in colonial times, women may have noticed the need for change in their civil rights. This could be the main reason why colonial women chose to leave their life behind after being captured by the Natives and create a new identity or life with their tribe.…
