Why is it important that you are able to communicate effectively with people in your job role?
Effective communication between the teachers and the teaching assistants is paramount in ensuring that effective team work is achieved. Teachers will gain confidence in the teaching assistants with whom they work when they recognize that they have the professional skills needed to work effectively in the classroom. Therefore it is important to gain a clear understanding of what the class teacher expects from you. Demonstrating flexibility as well as a professional competence may well be an essential factor in gaining teacher confidence.
In an ideal world the teacher and the teaching assistant would always agree about how their roles may complement each other. It is inevitable that from time to time we will need to compromise in order to maintain an effective working partnership.
As a teaching assistant on a day to day basis I am in contact with a wide range of professional colleagues on a day to day basis. This may include social workers, therapist-such as speech and language therapist-psychologist or teachers from special educational needs, support service. Working as a teaching assistant can play a vital part in ensuring that the work of the professionals will have a positive impact on the children that I work with.
