Anna,
I, like you, have experience in learning on an online portal. I enjoy the flexibility, experiences, and discussions amongst other students. I have learned a great deal from other students, which has opened my mind more on opinions that differ from mine. Often, we do not see small mistakes that others will, which is great because it expands the option for improvement. Likewise, after receiving my only C grade in my college transcript, I devoted myself to bettering myself in academic writing. I have many areas that I need addressed as well. I have noticed that when I am enrolled in two courses with one in APA and one in MLA, I have a difficult time jumping back and forth because of the similarities. Therefore, I understand

Deciding to attend college online was a challenge by itself, so I am writing this survival guide to help me stay focused and remind myself that attending the University of Phoenix was the best decision that I ever made. This survival guide will allow me to look back on all the things that I have learned and how to apply them to my future classes. When you are taking courses online, there are many things that are different than being in an actual traditional school and certain things are required and/or necessary in order to be successful. Always have a plan of action to help keep you organized and in contact with the way you communicate and study. Be sure to have the right programs and website links on your computer, so that there won’t be any issues in the beginning. Understand that there are many things that are important to learn prior to taking online classes, but perhaps one of the most important things is having general internet skills. A plan of action for obtaining general internet skills is to simply get use to the internet by going on line and teaching yourself how to maneuver through it. The University of Phoenix provides many resources that will help guide you and one of the main ones is The University of Phoenix Library. The library provides many tools such as, Center for Writing Excellence (CWE) in which will help me write my papers in a proper manner and Plagiarism Checker in which will allow me to submit a paper to be checked to determine the amount of work that was my own versus other quotes and verbiage from a known source. It is recommended that you take time to scheme through the university library before starting a course, so that you will get familiar on where to go when you are searching for something.…

    No Credibility, No Clue!

In his 2011 article, “Reliance on Online Materials Hinders Learning Potential for Students,” David Smith attempts to build upon student’s obligated online interaction to make a case against online classes. Smith first shows how much today’s learners must use online materials by using the example of his own Alma Mater. By referencing his own experience at the University of Nebraska—Lincoln, with MyRED and EBSCO search engine, Smith lays the grounds for the focus of his argument. He then attempts to use what seem to be personal examples of experience with online coursework while begging the question through repeated examples. By failing to establish the credibility of his facts, attempting to force his own authority over the subject, and poorly organizing his thoughts, Smith fails to create a strong and compelling argument against online classes and the internet as a resource.…

I have attended Argosy University Online since March 21, 2013 to Present. I was a Fulltime student. I'm currently taking my last course with them which is ENG 102. I enjoy taking my classes online. I feel as it is just like sitting in the classroom. When I logon to my class portal everything is there. Currently at Argosy the terms are 5 weeks long. So when I log on I have 5 modules that are one week a piece and have 3 assignments on each module. I participate in a discussion that the instructor puts out and I have to respond to the discussion post and also having to reply to two classmates on their discussion post every week. When assignments are due requiring the use of a text book I navigate under the module that the assignment is due and click on the require text that pertains to the assignment and the text is there from the book. When a writing assignment is due, I normally type the paper in Microsoft word and attach the document into the drop box on Argosy University's student portal and click the drop down box and click which assignment I’m submitting and submit it for grading. If I’m not too much in a hurry I will wait about ten minutes to see what my Turnitin score is. If I have any questions for the professor at any time I go to the left hand side where the modules are and click “Questions for the Professor” and ask my question. If it’s something personal in nature I will send the professor an email.…

Throughout this past semester of college, I have had to write many papers, reflections, observations and many others. My writing has improved over the span of the semester; however, I don’t believe it is because of this online course. The MLA information was not up to date with the current 8th edition, often the questions would be worded in a way that was not understandable. Due to this being all online there was no professor for me to be able ask questions when I was confused.…

With over 25 years of personal experience in teaching writing classes, Kate Kiefer, examines the answer to “Do Students Loose More Than They Gain in Online Writing Classes” with her argumentative essay. With writing this argumentative essay, Kiefer, believes that students of online writing classes can complete an online writing course with little understanding of the complete writing process because students of online classes are hindered by only having textual interactions. Kiefer gives many first hand experiences and examples that students are ultimately losing out on intellectual opportunities when it comes to taking online writing classes. I believe that students of online writing classes suffer intellectually because of faulty learning mediums, student obligations and the lack of student interactions.…
