Revision and Extension
Introduction

Correcting the worksheets

For each unit of the English Alive! 2 Student’s Book, there are two photocopiable worksheets:

The answers to the revision and extension worksheets, and checklists for the project work, are given in the next section. The worksheets can be checked: a revision worksheet, designed for students who need further practice of the grammar presented in the Student’s Book
● an extension worksheet, designed to challenge and motivate students
You may want to give the whole class the same worksheet, or give different students different worksheets according to their needs.

Revision worksheets
Students who require additional practice of the grammar presented in the Student’s Book can be given the revision worksheet for each unit. These focus on the key grammar points of the unit, at the same time recycling the vocabulary from the unit.
The revision worksheets have been designed so that students can work through them on their own.
We recommend that you set the revision worksheets after students have studied the grammar points in the classroom. Students can then refer back to their Student’s Book, if necessary, to help them to complete the tasks.
Students should also be referred to the more detailed explanation of the grammar points in the
Workbook Grammar Bank.

orally with the whole class, if all students have completed the same worksheet by asking individual students to say the answers, or to them on the board by collecting in and correcting the worksheets

An analysis of "Follower" by Seamus Heaney "Follower" is a poem which relates back to Seamus Haney’s past memories which he had experienced when he was at a younger age, they are memories of him and his father and their relationship. From the poem we can interpret that he was brought up on a potato farm and in many of his other poems he relates to this, this suggests that perhaps he enjoyed farming or perhaps he is expressing the family's traditions. "Follower" is a poem which strongly relates to Haney’s past life. The poem also suggests the theme of growth, at the beginning of the poem he is a young boy, who looks up to his father. However, by the end of the poem it is his father who needs help from his son. The first three stanzas of the poem are written in the third person with all words relating to his father as 'he' or 'his'. But there is change in the fourth stanza and from then on until the end of the poem, it is written in the first person with only one reference in the whole of the last two verses to his father as 'him'. The tone of the poem is quite reminiscent and it is obvious that the poet when he was young was in awe of his father. 'Follower' is a poem which relates to his past life which can be regarded as a big space of time. This gap in time can be noticed byte regularity of the poem. The structure of the poem has an even number of four line stanzas and combination of six stanzas in total. There are about five sets of imagery in the poem, often the imagery in ‘Follower' is based on the appearance of his father. For example in the first stanza on the second line he has written: 'His shoulders globed like a full sail strung Between the shafts and the furrow' This means that his father looks like a full sail strung from far because perhaps his shirt is being blown by the wind making him have the appearance of a full sail strung between the shafts and the furrow. This is also quite a magnificent piece of…

Growing up in a world where people think fashion is everything, seeing perfume and clothing advertisements can make young people want to be like the people in those ads. When reading magazines, you see a lot of sex. Many name brands think the best way to sell a product is through sex. Dolce & Gabbana is an example of selling sex to make a profit. There are very few ads where they are not selling a product through sex. On the D & G website, almost every ad is sexual. They have men and women lying together. They also have half naked people in their advertisements. The media states a fact whenever they advertise things, when they advertise with females half dressed they are saying that small sexy girls is the way of life. Perfume ads are the main cause for young people to think that they should look a certain way.…

This is the VOA Special English Agriculture Report. Chocolate comes from cocoa beans, and more than half of those beans come from two countries in West Africa. . But the situation is not all sweetness for poor cocoa farmers in Ivory Coast and neighboring Ghana. The United States has announced ten million dollars for renewed efforts to end the worst forms of child labor in the cocoa industry in those countries. The grant will support efforts to reduce poverty so parents do not have to depend on the labor of their children. Another aim is to give children more access to education. The money will go toward a new "Framework of Action" related to an international agreement from two thousand one. That agreement is called the Harkin-Engel Protocol. American Senator Tom Harkin and Representative Elliott Engel led negotiations with the chocolate and cocoa industries. The Department of Labor announced the grant in September, along with seven million dollars promised by the international cocoa industry. The governments of Ghana and Ivory Coast have also promised resources and policy support for the new efforts. Kevin Willcutts is an official in the Labor Department's Office of Child Labor. KEVIN WILLCUTTS: "We’re at a point in time when we think we have a real opportunity because with the signing of this joint declaration, the parties are coming together and saying that we share a common commitment to address the situation and to offer children better hope for the future through education." Daan de Vries is with Utz Certified, a program that tries to create a fair marketplace for agricultural products. Mr. de Vries says some crops are grown closer to cities because they must be processed quickly. But he says crops like cocoa and coffee are often grown in very rural areas with more poverty and less…

Jamaica has a rich cultural legacy which has been shaped over the centuries by the island’s unique historical heritage and by the intermingling of peoples of African, European, Indian, Chinese and Middle Eastern descent. The vibrant Jamaican culture is reflected in the nation’s traditional and popular music, and is the driving force of the country’s cuisine, art and craft, dance, drama and fashion. Most Jamaicans can be considered as bilingual. English is their main and official language, but the Jamaicans also speak their own language called patois, which combines English words and a Jamaican accent with grammatical features common to the languages of West Africa. In Jamaica there are 90% black people, and only 9, 1% of other ethnic groups.…
