Holly Park Home Health Case Study
The Holly Park Home Health Agency in Seattle, Washington will provide a wide range of home health care services. These services include skilled nursing such as post-acute care, observation and assessment, medication administration and management, wound care, and pain management. Additionally, we will provide therapy services; for instance, physical, occupational and speech/language therapy and a variety of other services including nutrition management and education, low vision services, medical social services, and home care assistants. With such a diverse range of activities, and complex context and environment, comes an equally diverse and complex collection of Human Resources (HR) laws and regulations produced by federal, state, and local governments, and best practice standards that apply or are relevant to Home Health operations. Moreover, home health poses unique HR compliance challenges because services are provided outside of an institution in the patient’s home settings. Routine controls present …show more content…
Many local, state and federal laws apply to home health agencies. Some impact all personnel, while others may affect only specific areas or job categories. Having a structure to monitor and manage HR compliance and risk provides support and assurance of proper decision making and good management. Common examples of the types of laws regulating Seattle employers include: federal laws such as the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Uniform Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) etc., Washington State labor laws and the City of Seattle Labor Standards which have gained national attention when the city implemented its own Minimum Wage ordinance and Paid Sick and Safe
