To successfully make an impact in this statistic, it is essential that the government learns a method to communicate with the homeless and those living in poverty. The government needs to assign a task force to specifically reach out to the homeless in a first hand manner. While communicating with the poor, it is vital that these representatives mention the importance of proper nutrition and health care. They should also ensure that the homeless know about the numerous publically funded food banks and soup kitchens available for their use. Upon arrival at these locations, the homeless and poor can be asked about job openings for simple tasks which require minimal past work experience. It goes without saying, that not all under the poverty lines are criminal offenders, however, it is known that the majority of those incarcerated are those who suffer from poverty. Many of the crimes committed are due to acts of desperation and survival. Research done by Raise and Rates Coalition has found that extremely low income levels has a direct correlation with crimes (Ivanova, 2011). This included crimes such as sex work, burglary, sexual assaults, and staying with abusive partners.
